Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Breastfeeding Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will provide specialized support, guidance, and care to breastfeeding mothers and their infants. As a breastfeeding care provider, you will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating lactation-related concerns, ensuring both the physical and emotional well-being of mothers and their babies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide evidence-based lactation counseling, support, and education to new mothers and their families.
- Assess and treat breastfeeding issues such as latch problems, sore nipples, engorgement, low milk supply, and mastitis.
- Offer guidance on breastfeeding positions, frequency, and duration, ensuring optimal feeding for the infant.
- Collaborate with pediatricians, obstetricians, and other healthcare providers to ensure holistic care for the mother and infant.
- Conduct in-person or telemedicine consultations and follow-ups with breastfeeding mothers.
- Perform assessments of both the mother and infant to identify potential health concerns related to breastfeeding.
- Provide assistance with breast pump use and educate on pumping schedules and techniques.
- Support mothers with lactation goals, including but not limited to, exclusive breastfeeding, transitioning to formula, or introducing solids.
- Document patient assessments, care plans, and progress accurately and in a timely manner.
- Stay up-to-date on current lactation research, guidelines, and practices.
Qualifications:
- Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with current, active licensure.
- Specialized training or certification in lactation (IBCLC preferred or willingness to pursue).
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in breastfeeding care or related fields.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with mothers and their families.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with lactation counseling and management of common breastfeeding challenges.
