Job Title: Worcester Green Corps Horticultural Specialist (Seasonal)
Reports to: Worcester Green Corps Coordinator
The Worcester Green Corps (WGC) is seeking a horticultural specialist for the summer gardening season. The person in this position will help the WGC Coordinator identify potential sites for pollinator and rain gardens, as well as design the layout of the sites, select plants, and oversee maintenance of each site.
Responsibilities:
· Identify, design, and maintain garden sites by weeding, pruning, removing litter, etc.
· Create a maintenance schedule for each of the garden sites
· Install plants at garden sites
· Ensure that each garden site is well established
· Teach youth workers about horticultural skills in practice
· Design garden sites with a focus on native pollinators and supporting local ecosystems
· Teach youth workers about each plant and garden site, explaining why each plant was selected
· Communicate regularly with WGC Coordinator about potential garden sites and ongoing projects
Qualifications:
· Horticultural training or formal education in horticulture, plant science, or closely related field
· At least 1 year of relevant experience
· Ability to safely and effectively operate a range of equipment
· Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage time effectively
· Must be able to lift 50 pounds
· Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Hours: 5 – 15/ week
Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 per week
