SUMMARY
The Technology Teacher will provide middle and upper school students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding of technology systems and processes. The teacher is responsible for providing instruction in the use of technology including Coding and Computer Languages and teaches students how to use technology to solve problems, create projects and develop presentations. This position will focus on teaching students about the ethical and responsible use of technology, as well as the positive and negative potential associated with its use. The teacher will also provide supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed in the classroom. Achieving academic excellence requires the teacher to work collaboratively with other members of the school faculty, staff, and with parents.
DUTIES
Ø Teaching a full range of subject areas including hardware, software, database management, and programming languages, including but not limited to Java, Python, and HTML.
Ø Teaching Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles and Advanced Placement Computer Science A courses.
Ø Administers and develops assessments in technology which measure student competency and development of individual learning plans.
Ø Collaborate with teachers and other instructional staff to develop and implement curriculum materials and specific lesson plans that integrate technology.
Ø Instills a strong understanding of internet safety and ethical use of technology.
Ø Shapes and models the integration of technology in all curriculum areas.
Ø Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study by creating engaging and interactive classroom presentations.
Ø Maintains an attractive, stimulating learning environment.
Ø Staying updated on the latest technological developments and incorporating them into teachings.
Ø Plans a balanced curriculum and organizes daily class time so that preparation and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Ø Assess and evaluate students’ progress and provide feedback.
Ø Provide individual and small group instruction to support each student within the curriculum.
Ø Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment.
Ø Marks and evaluates each student’s growth and assesses each student’s contribution to the class.
Ø Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. lesson plans, grades, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, etc.)
Ø Maintains up-to-date knowledge on emerging technologies.
Ø Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
Ø Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classrooms, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Ø Participates in in-service workshops, meetings, sessions and all other defined activities, as well as other areas of school life including Film Club, Drone Club and the school newspaper.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
· Experience with coding and programming languages, HTML, Python3 and Java
· Familiarity with educational technology tools and software including technology learning management systems such as Code HS and Code.org.
- Knowledge of Adobe Cloud Software including:
- Audition
- Photoshop
- Illustrator
- InDesign
- Premiere
- After Effects
- Aero
- Dreamweaver
- Ableton Live for Music Composition
- Procreate for iPad and Tablet Digital Art
- Additional knowledge of C# and Game Design with Unity
- Minimum 3 years teaching, preferably in independent school education.
- A strong incumbent for this position possesses the following:
- Proficiency in educational technology including 3D Printing, and 3D Design.
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Excellent organizational communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to prioritize, multi-task projects with equal priority, work as part of a team, and anticipate work.
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond to sensitive matters and/or situations with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
