SUBJECT: Bus Monitor-10 Month
REPORTS TO: Assistant Transportation Director/Operations Supervisor
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
This position is accountable for assuming the responsibilities for the safety, supervision, boarding, dispatching, daily pickup and delivery of children in need of special education from their designated pickup to their school and their safe return from school to their pickup.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (To be inlcuded along with other responsibilities)
1. Responsible for being aware and responding to any need or problem which a child in need of special education has which may cause difficulties during transportation, i.e., seizures, motion sickness or any disability.
2. Responsible for crossing children safely, when necessary.
3. Responsible for making sure children are seated safely and remain seated when riding the bus.
4. Responsible for reporting behavior problems and maintaining appropriate behavior of children riding the bus.
5. Responsible for all children being accounted for during pickup and deliveries to and from school.
6. Responsible for all children being out of bus and going directly into schoolyard or into school if bell has rung.
7. Responsible for all children at the end of school leaving the bus safely and headed for home if not met by parent/guardian or other
family member.
8. Responsible for knowing and having on board the vehicle the names and addresses of students assigned to the route.
9. Responsible for being trained to take necessary emergency measures.
10.Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status,

11.Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
12.Responsible to assist the driver in the pre-trip safety inspection, as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Physically capable of performing duties (lifting, carrying of children, ambulatory and prosthetic devices)
3. Awareness and sensitivity for children with special needs.
4. Ability to work closely and cooperatively with driver(s) to ensure as safe and comfortable a ride as possible for students.
5. Working knowledge of effective techniques of discipline and behavior reinforcement.
6. Knowledge and ability to provide services for children with special needs; keep them safe and as comfortable as possible in
transportation
7. Valid CORI
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess personality traits conducive to working with handicapped children.
2. Flexible and capable of handling emergencies using sound judgment.
WORK YEAR: School Year: 183 Days
WORK DAY: 5 Hours a day minimum
