We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Behavioral Health (BH) Community Health Worker (CHW) to join our team. This position is dedicated to supporting newly arriving migrant individuals and families living in the Worcester, Massachusetts area, including those residing in temporary shelters and hotels in Worcester and surrounding towns. The BH CHW will play a crucial role in improving the overall health and well-being of these recent arrivals. The position will work closely with individuals and families to identify behavioral health needs and connect them to relevant services and support. Additionally, the BH CHW will conduct outreach, coordination, and implementation of groups for children, youth, and parents focused on providing psychosocial support and enhancing community connections.
Responsibilities:
1. Outreach and Engagement:
- Identify and connect with individuals and families in the community who may benefit from behavioral health services and resources.
- Support in referring interested individuals to behavioral health services at RISE or to other relevant community services.
- ·Build trusting relationships with community members and community partners to facilitate open communication and collaboration.
- Conduct outreach and education related to behavioral health needs and support in culturally relevant and accessible ways.
2. Groups:
- Identify community health needs and coordinate with RISE staff to develop culturally relevant groups to help address these needs.
- Conduct outreach and engage in planning and implementation of groups for youth and parents on a variety of topics including (but not limited to) navigating the school system, parenting support, and expressive arts.
3. Health Promotion:
- Organize and participate in health promotion activities and events within the community.
- Collaborate with local organizations to develop and implement health-related programs.
4. Data Collection and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of interactions and services provided.
- Compile data and generate reports to track progress and outcomes of behavioral health initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in social work or related field
- Previous experience in a mental health related field is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations
- Comfort and familiarity with discussing behavioral health topics in accessible and strengths-based ways
- Knowledge of local resources and services related to physical and mental health
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in basic computer skills – specifically Word, Excel, email
- Proficiency in Haitian-Creole preferred, or alternatively Spanish or another high need language proficiency
Preferred but not required:
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
