SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Associate Dean of Student Affairs/University Title IX Coordinator
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Part-time student employees and interns assigned to the area.

General Statement of Duties: Worcester State University's Strategic Plan outlines our aim to cultivate a vibrant campus life and a collaborative working and learning environment in which all members of our community feel welcomed, included, respected, empowered, and valued. The position contributes to the University's priority of building a culture of belonging through support, education, training, and social and educational programming.

The Assistant Director, LGBTQIA is a member of the Division of Student Affairs. This position interfaces and collaborates with the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development, Counseling Center, Residence Life, Student Organizations, and campus-wide committees. This individual is responsible for the development of long-range planning and direction for the LGBTQIA Resource Center.

This position also serves as the University's Confidential Resource Provider responding to requests for confidential information on Title IX reporting options, campus Counseling Services, or local, community-based sexual assault crisis centers or domestic violence programs; medical and health services and University based supportive measures.

Responsibilities:

  • (E) Serves as a resource and referral agent of all students with particular attention to the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender nonconforming, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual/aromantic students.
  • (E) Coordinates and implements campus LGBTQIA education and wellness programming around pertinent LGBTQIA areas including belonging, beyond the binary, sexual health, sexual violence prevention, consent, healthy relationships and allyship.
  • (E Meets with the leadership of the LGBTQIA and allies student groups on a regular basis.
  • (E) Coordinates outreach efforts to raise awareness of the various programs and resources available through the resource center.
  • (E) Serves as a member of the University's LGBTQIA Advisory Board, SMRT and SAVE Teams.
  • (E) Develops partnerships with pertinent stakeholders and community organizations that serve as resources, supports and training partners around LGBTQIA needs.
  • (E) Helps create a safe space for LGBTQIA students at WSU.
  • (E) Oversees the day-to-day operation and administration of the LGBTQIA Resource Center.
  • (E) Maintains Campus Pride Index annual/ongoing evaluation.
  • (E) Provides one-on-one support and resources for students dealing with identity development, navigating the coming out process, coping with campus climate concerns, struggling with academic demands, etc.
  • (E) Refers students to campus supports such as Counseling Services, Title IX, Dean of Students Office, etc. when necessary.
  • (E) Develops curriculum, resources, supports and materials that can be used by the community to support LGBTQIA students.
  • (E) Participates in all training for the awareness and prevention of sexual misconduct, Title IX procedures and trauma informed response.
  • (E) Provides expertise in developing, managing, and updating the university-wide trainings. This includes management of the online training platform for students and employees.
  • (E) Serves as a member of the University's LGBTQIA Advisory Board, SMRT and SAVE Teams.
  • (E) Provides analysis of statistical case data for annual reports related to incidents of discrimination, harassment and sexual violence.
  • (E) Serves as the University's Confidential Resource Provider under Title IX.
  • (E) Maintain appropriate knowledge and trainings associated with Title IX for purposes of CRP and advisor role in Title IX Investigation.
  • (E) Develops and advises Relationship Peer Educators (RPEs) to provide education and outreach.
  • (E) Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
  • (E) Works some nights and weekend hours to assist with campus events, including, but not limited to, student programming, orientations, and admissions events.
  • (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
  • (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
  • (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

  • At least one year of direct service experience with diverse populations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working directly with LGBTQIA identified and questioning individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated success advancing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully pass a thorough background check and CORI check.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Professional experience in higher education.

Additional Information:


This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, non-unit professional position. The firm annual salary range for this position is $70,000- $73,000, commensurate with relevant professional experience and education.
