Today we are hiring a Remote / Hybrid, Substation SCADA Engineering Associate for our client in Lakewood, CO.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of deliverables associated with Substation SCADA systems for utility scale renewable projects. Primarily, the renewable projects are connecting solar farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and large wind farms to the transmission grid through high voltage substations. This position will also support the existing renewable team with Protection & Control design in-between SCADA assignments.
The expected deliverables include, HMI configurations, communications device programming, field support across the US, developing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC & DC schematic diagrams, relay panel elevations & wiring, supervisory & control drawings, electrical vendor equipment wiring diagrams and complete cable schedule and bill of materials. The new hire will work directly with experienced engineers and designers.
The primary duties include :
- Develop SCADA point-list and communication one lines based on customer standards. Familiarity required with SCADA protocols such as DNP.3, Modbus, SEL, etc.
- Create RTU and other field IED Configuration files based on utility standards.
- Perform SCADA Testing and commissioning and developing testing plans and procedures. Site visits to various substation locations across the US will be required.
- Perform P&C design for 12kV to 500kV substations or switchyards using AutoCAD.
- Perform careful self-checking review to ensure the quality of work before it is presented to senior design reviewers.
- Prepare construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors using computer assisted design (CAD).
- Perform engineering calculations such AC and DC load calculations required to properly size auxiliary systems.
- Ensure all designs conform to our client’s and / or industry standards.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed.
- Utilize client and / or company information system to track and update design activities.
- Attend project meetings to understand full scope of work.
- Provide field support during construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
As SCADA services are fairly new to the team, the candidate will also be responsible for helping create procedures, workflows, and practices that will adhere to other established procedures.

Preferred

HMI Programming using InkScape and Diagram Builder
Familiarity with other SCADA systems, protocols, and specialized software would be a plus.
Familiarity with relay settings development and RDB files.
