Job Summary
Monitors the inspection activities of production operators. Performs regular audits of operator-inspected jobs to review the quality of operator inspection. Trains operators based on the results found in audits. Monitors shop equipment for all quality-related variables. Works closely with shift supervisors to provide the best quality parts. Performs the following duties.
Responsibilities
- Re-inspect all operator-rejected material to verify the reject condition.
- Performs regular inspection audits and has responsibility for ensuring that proper inspection and paperwork has been performed by the operators before work is released for shipment.
- Tracks customer-supplied product inventory management and various enterprise resource planning functions.
- Communicates with customers regarding quality concerns and parts process status.
- Audits daily shipment amounts and assists in invoicing functions.
- Monitors furnace logs and assists in the improvement of Opto 22 software including process alarms and improvement of controls.
- Performs lab work as needed including hardness testing, mount creation and micro-hardness testing.
- Provides input to both the Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) process as well as the quoting process.
- Assists in time studies for the cost analysis as required.
- Performs regular layered process audits, dock audits, and plant audits to ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Helps to find the cause of all rejects and helps implement effective preventive measures.
- Assists in maintaining Quality Management System requirements regarding rejected material.
- Assists in the training of employees for all quality and safety-related requirements (with an emphasis on preventing rejects).
- Maintains furnace surveys and inspection equipment studies both internally and with outside vendors as required.
- Recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products through the use of annual process failure mode effects and analysis reviews as well as conducting risk analysis via the PFMEA.
- Confers with shift supervisor concerning the status of operator’s quality qualifications.
- Supplies timely reports concerning training status, reject status, preventative measures implemented, and safety program status.
- Assist the supervisor in training operators on the correct methods for load preparation.
- Observe all products during all stages of operations to ensure conformance to quality standards.
- Understands and applies State Heat Treat’s QMS through all documentation at levels 1-5 including process variables and instructions for straightening, lab, inspection, racking, and general work instructions.
- Able to safely and effectively operate a forklift truck.
- Follow all written procedures and instructions in the performance of required tasks.
