JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for maintaining proper operation of air conditioning and heating equipment, performing necessary repairs and adjustments for efficient and safe use; repairs, adjusts, and services plumbing, electrical units, and engines as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Inspects air conditioning and/or heating units for proper operation; repairs and replaces parts as needed.
- Repairs electrical and plumbing problems.
- Repairs and changes door locks as required.
- Performs carpentry work as required.
- Make repairs on gasoline engines such as tractors, lawnmowers, and weed-eaters.
- Responds to maintenance call on a 24-hour basis when needed.
- Replaces ballasts as needed.
- Prepares supply list for ordering belts, filters, batteries, etc.
- Maintains accuracy of the courthouse clock.
- Delegates duties to custodial workers and security guards in supervisor’s absence.
- Assists supervisor in the preparation of monthly reports.
- Monitors PH and chlorine in the fountain to maintain proper levels.
- Maintains and repairs sprinkler systems.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties are performed within the assigned County facility. Performs work with or near moving mechanical and electrical parts and wiring. Occasional travel to other County facilities is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of general building maintenance techniques and practices.
- Considerable knowledge of general construction methods.
- Ability to read and interpret written instructions.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to assemble and disassemble parts.
- Ability to remain on-call during periods of emergencies.
- Ability to direct the work of others.
- Ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
- Skill in the use of carpentry tools.
- Skill in the use of a jackhammer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to negotiate cramped spaces.
- Digital dexterity is necessary for equipment operation and tool usage.
- Visual acuity is needed for building inspection and equipment and tool usage.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of high school or GED equivalency including vocational training in building construction or maintenance; considerable experience in building maintenance duties including repair of air conditioning/heating units and/or performing electrical and plumbing duties and minor carpentry; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Requirements
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, motor vehicle report, and a pre-employment job-related physical exam.
- In addition to pre-employment checks, employees who operate county vehicles are required to undergo an annual motor vehicle report.
- This position is safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must possess or be able to immediately obtain a valid Arkansas Driver's License.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
