Job Description:
This position is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic oversight with physical, day-to-day operations management. This individual will ensure the efficient flow of inventory, logistics, and team coordination while actively participating in the physical aspects of warehouse operations. The role requires a blend of leadership, operational expertise, and the physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks such as using pallet jacks, moving products, unloading trucks, and working on racking systems. The Director will manage a team, drive process improvements, and ensure that operational goals align with the mission of serving the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring timely and accurate movement of goods, from receiving to distribution, while maintaining high standards of efficiency and organization.
- Actively participate in labor tasks, including pallet jack operation, lifting, moving products, and managing racking systems.
- Develop, refine, and implement operational processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain quality service delivery.
Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- Support the logistics for inbound and outbound shipments, coordinating with the director of business operations and internal teams.
- Ensure smooth coordination between warehouse operations, product intake, and distribution to community partners.
- Oversee and optimize the use of inventory management systems to maintain accuracy and operational efficiency.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and develop the operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure that staff and volunteers are effectively trained in operational tasks, safety procedures, and warehouse best practices.
- Coordinate volunteer efforts to maximize impact and efficiency in day-to-day operations.
Financial and Resource Management
- Assist in managing the operations budget, ensuring resources are used efficiently while minimizing costs.
- Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising service delivery quality.
- Ensure adequate resource allocation to support both ongoing operations and future growth.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Maintain safety and compliance standards across all operational processes, adhering to legal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee building and facility management to ensure operational readiness and safety for staff, volunteers, and partners.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven setting.
- Strong leadership capabilities with a focus on team development, operational efficiency, and process optimization.
- Hands-on experience in warehouse operations, including manual labor tasks such as lifting, moving goods, and managing inventory.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
- Financial literacy and experience with budget management and cost-saving strategies.
