POSITION SUMMARY
The Campus Safety Dispatcher acts as the first point of contact for safety and security related calls. They are responsible for identifying and dispatching appropriate campus safety personnel for both emergency and non-emergency calls and for performing office administrative duties in support of campus security operations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives information regarding campus safety and security issues by telephone, radio, or other sources; notifies and dispatches campus safety officers to campus locations as needed.
- Monitors emergency fire and intruder alarm systems; monitors 9-1-1 calls; contacts outside agencies and alerts appropriate personnel as necessary.
- Activates campus emergency mass notification systems as required.
- Answers multiple non-emergency lines and calls for assistance; provides routine information to the public; screens and directs calls to other staff of the college. Acts as the receptionist for the campus safety office and college answering service after hours.
- Enters security incident data into a computer aided dispatch system.
- Assists students, staff and the public in the interpretation and completion of parking and citation-related forms; handles complaints effectively and courteously in person, via email, and on the telephone.
- Conducts various transactions with students, staff, vendors, and the public in matters requiring a detailed knowledge of college policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and activities.
- Maintains campus lost and found unit.
- Utilizes various computer systems to monitor activity and alarms, search for and record information.
- Performs general clerical and office work, including typing, filing, and managing both paper and electronic files.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in security, law enforcement, emergency response or similar field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates degree.
- Proficiency in the operation and activation of emergency mass notification systems.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills and demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multicultural community.
- Ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all circumstances.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be available to work various shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required due to business needs.
- Must be able to work overtime on nights and weekends as required by business needs.
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, stretch for duration of shift.
- Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods.
