POSITION SUMMARY
The Industry Marketing Manager is a key member of the Industry Marketing & PR team. Under the direction of the Associate Director - Marketing Communications, this position is responsible for leading day-to-day marketing efforts for the college’s industry leadership, consulting, and advancement businesses. In addition, the Communications Manager plays a vital role in the college’s ongoing public relations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Associate Director—Industry Marketing & Communications and clients to understand marketing objectives, target audiences, and key messages.
- Contribute to strategic marketing plans developed for the college’s industry and consumer businesses, including SIG, Consulting, and Advancement.
- Lead day-to-day marketing efforts for CIA Wine & Beverage Summit and Worlds of Flavor International Conference and Festival. Conference marketing duties include:
- Creating e-mails, SmartBrief editorial copy, and social media copy to drive conference attendance and engagement.
- Promoting key client and college initiatives, including the master’s degree program, to drive awareness and ticket sales.
- Tracking conference registrations and progress to goal and recommend changes to strategy, additional audiences, as needed.
- Showcasing key CIA initiatives, including master’s degree programs and ProChef educational offerings to conference audiences, alumni, and other industry professionals.
- Serve as client contact, working with conference program directors to identify content for conference promotion.
- Provide support and develop communications, as needed, for Advancement events, including CIA Leadership Awards and Thomas Keller Golf Classic communications development.
- Provide support, as requested, for CIA Consulting events and client communications.
- Draft and distribute press releases, media alerts, and creative story pitches that position the CIA as an industry leader and increase awareness for its educational offerings, conferences, and events.
- Create and maintain media lists.
- Oversee results reporting, including creation of weekly media highlights reports and tracking of conference media coverage.
- Assist, as needed, with gathering content for Dispatch du Jour and other internal communications.
- Manage assigned projects to deadline, keeping management, team members, and clients informed of progress, potential issues, and proposed solutions.
- Attend and provide support at events and meetings, as requested.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
Experience:
- Three to four (3-4) years public relations or related industry experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Past public relations experience, preferably at an agency.
- Knowledge of, and passion for, food and the food industry.
- Knowledge of media relations databases (Cision, Burrelles, etc.).
- Understanding of consumer and trade food media.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Sharp proofreading skills a must -- thorough knowledge of grammar and style.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to distill complex information into easy-to-understand, compelling written materials for both trade and consumer media and members of the industry.
- Demonstrated ability in organizational and time management, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, self-driven, and able to multi-task.
- Ability to work independently, or in a team environment, and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Ability to cultivate relationships with journalists and other key CIA stakeholders.
- High level of energy, creativity, and dedication.
- Strong computer experience, MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to be adaptable, dependable, and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work overtime on nights and weekends as required by business needs.
- Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds (such as file boxes, binders, etc.).
