Job Description:
As our Interior Design Project Manager, you will have creative ownership for the full project process, from initial concept through to execution. This role encompasses both creative and financial management, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with the client’s vision. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in interior design, coupled with robust project management and budgeting skills. They will act as the primary point of contact for clients, manage the design team, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and drive successful outcomes for each project.
Some travel is required in this role, typically about 2-3 days per month.
What you will do:
- Client Management Throughout Design Phases
- Be the primary point of contact for clients, guiding them through the design process and managing expectations.
- Lead client meetings to understand clients’ needs, preferences, and budget constraints. Then translate that understanding into actionable design concepts, by providing choices or scenarios with budgetary and schedule impacts.
- Develop and present design proposals, budgets, and timelines that align with the client’s vision and goals.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, address any concerns, and manage any changes or revisions.
- Project Design and Development:
- Lead the development of design concepts with creativity, functionality, and aesthetic alignment with client goals.
- Oversee the design process, from conceptual sketches and layouts to final material and furnishing selections.
- Collaborate with other designers on our team to meet design standards and project timelines.
- Prepare design presentations and oversee the production of design documents, drawings, and 3D renderings as needed.
- Financial Oversight:
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial objectives are met without compromising design integrity.
- Monitor and control costs throughout the project to maintain budgeted amounts.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, for the best price, materials and services.
- Conduct regular financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis for clients and internal team.
- Project Management and Execution:
- Full scope project management, ensuring timelines, quality standards, and budgets are met.
- Development of architectural and FF E specifications and incorporation into project documents.
- Coordination of RFIs with local architects/contractors, and production of sketches to support projects.
- Oversee construction and installation of design elements, including punchlist support.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other third-parties for seamless project delivery.
- Conduct site visits and manage project installations so the design vision is fully realized.
- Troubleshoot any issues that arise, ensuring minimal disruption to the timeline and budget.
- Leadership and Team Development:
- Lead internal project meetings and coordinate with the team to streamline project workflows and efficiency.
- Stay updated on design trends, materials, and industry best practices, integrating innovative solutions into projects.
Your qualifications:
- Bachelors’ Degree in interior design or interior architecture.
- 10 years of professional experience in commercial interior design, with at least 3-5 years in project management. Specialized experience in hospitality, education, and/or workplace strategy is preferred.
- Experience creating overall project concepts with a keen ability to consider how each individual aspect interacts with the project as a whole.
- Adept at space planning, finish selection, product/furniture specification, and managing timelines for office environments.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, with experience in Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Suite, including comfortability with spreadsheets.
- Excellent organizational skills that power an ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of initiative and creative problem-solving with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Pay Benefits:
- Full-time role with salary commensurate with experience, about $80,000 per year.
