Workshops for Warriors® (www.wfw.org) is a nonprofit founded in 2008. Its mission is to place veterans and wounded warriors into advanced manufacturing careers by providing them with industry-leading training, nationally recognized credentials, work experience, and job placement. Training is provided at no cost to veterans. We are rebuilding America’s advanced manufacturing workforce, one veteran at a time with a team of passionate, enthusiastic professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of those we serve, their families, and our country.

The Development and Event Manager plays a crucial role in advancing the mission and goals of WFW by managing and implementing various development activities and initiatives. This position reports to the Senior Development Director and works in cooperation with development and marketing teams. The focus is on supporting the Development Office with fundraising, grant writing, and managing periodic events. The Development and Event Manager requires excellent communication skills, a strategic mindset, and a passion for education and non-profit work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Event Planning and Management:
    • Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events, including galas, auctions, donor appreciation events, and other special events.
    • Manage event logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, budgeting, and event marketing.
    • Collaborate with volunteers and committees to ensure successful event execution and achievement of fundraising goals.
    • Represent the school at community events, networking functions, and fundraising activities.
    • Collaborate with the development director to develop and execute community engagement strategies that align with the school's mission and goals.
    • Actively engage parents, alumni, and volunteers in fundraising and community outreach efforts.
  • Data Management and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor databases and records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
    • Generate reports and analyze data to evaluate fundraising efforts, donor trends, and campaign effectiveness.
    • Provide regular reports and updates to the Development Office regarding fundraising progress and outcomes.
       
  • Grant Writing:
    • Research and identify grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other grant-making organizations.
    • Write, submit, and manage grant proposals.
    • All other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications & Work Experience 

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • 3 years of relevant grant writing and fundraising experience, including extensive foundation, corporate, and government relationship management.
    • Clear demonstrated history of writing successful six-figure grant applications from program-based funders and government agencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
  • 5 years of relevant event planning and management to include Galas, Golf Tournaments, and periodic donor cultivation events.
  • 4 years of proven success in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and managing relationships with institutional funders.
  • 3 years of professional experience with Salesforce preferred.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Meets Objectives- Can manage and work toward meeting personal, department and organizational goals.
  • Dependability–Has exhibited the quality of being reliable and flexible to be available when needed.

Important Notes

Position Details: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position (40 hours/week).

Pay: The proposed annual rate of pay for this California-based position is $70,000-$85,000.  The actual compensation offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Dress code: Our office staff works in a business casual or relaxed business casual environment.

Supervisory: No supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to push, move, lift or otherwise bear 10-30lbs.  Applications may include but are not limited to repetitive work using a computer keyboard, mouse and headphones while sitting and/or standing at an assigned work desk area.
