What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Financial Reporting position at Workspace Property Management?
Job Summary:
The position’s primary responsibilities will be to work closely with the Chief Accounting Officer to oversee and lead a team of 4 individuals in the Financial Reporting Department as well as working closely with an accounting department of 20 individuals to complete monthly, quarterly and annual accounting and financial reporting requirements for two real estate portfolios totaling 18 million square feet of office and industrial properties. This role interacts heavily with the corporate accounting and operations teams and the leadership of various other departments within the Company, as well as having direct interaction with the Chief Financial Officer.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation and review of the corporate consolidation process on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Oversee the preparation and review of GAAP financial statements on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Coordinate and manage the relationship with external auditors, including overall audit coordination, general audit inquiries and requests, preparation of schedules, and gathering support for testing selections in a public-like-company environment.
- Supervise, train and mentor the fixed asset team and its’ close processes, inclusive of working with operations on the status of ongoing capital projects and capital reserves process.
- Provide support for and assist with the preparation of various aspects of partner reporting, including performance metrics, BOD decks and supplemental analysis.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budget reports and documentation as well as budget-to-actual analysis on a quarterly basis.
- Facilitate the implementation of new or updated accounting standards.
- Perform ad hoc reporting, special projects and other tasks as requested.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Real estate industry experience required.
- 6 – 10 years of public accounting or financial reporting experience preferably in a public company setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiencies in the use of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Yardi or similar real estate accounting software a plus.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, leadership and communication skills.
- Demonstrate strong initiative, decision making and management skills.
- Ability to drive results and meet deadlines.
