The Vice President, Global Industries (CGIVP) is responsible for leading business development with global clients; managing IFC’s global sector communities of practice; supporting operational process simplification; and collaborating closely across the World Bank Group to align sector strategies.

Global Industries Economics is looking to hire an Industry Economist to join the team. The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative, economic / econometric and research skills combined with substantive practical and operational experience of applying economics and technical analysis to IFC sectors of operations.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Conduct economic analysis to inform business development, sector strategies, investment and advisory operations design.
  • Carry out analysis linking global megatrends and critical development issues with industry-specific trends.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new databases and analytics relevant to IFC operations.
  • Establish a feedback loop between outreach and research.
  • Contribute to the preparation of policy reports and flagship publications.
  • Present analytical findings to diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Engage with industry experts and colleagues at IFC and the World Bank.
  • Contribute to a culture of technical excellence within the unit.
  • Deliver the agreed upon work program through cost effective use of resources.

Selection Criteria

  • Ph.D. in economics / finance / business or Master’s degree with substantive operational experience.
  • 2 years of relevant experience (or 5 years if Master’s degree) applying sector economics.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Applied research and tool development skills.
  • Publication record in relevant peer-reviewed journals is a plus.
  • Good understanding of private sector issues across emerging markets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Computer skills : Strong STATA skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Note : If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s / he will retain his / her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 3 year term appointment.
