Global Corporate Solutions and Corporate Real Estate
Reporting directly to the Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Administration Officer (MDCAO), Global Corporate Solutions (GCS) brings together the functions of Corporate Security, Corporate Real Estate, and Corporate Services (such as food services, printing, travel, conferences, and translation and interpretation).
GCS’s Corporate Real Estate (GCSCR) division plays a crucial role in supporting IBRD, IDA, MIGA, and ICSID by developing and operating their real estate demands worldwide. GCSCR’s primary purpose is to create safe, cost effective, sustainable, and functional real estate solutions, enabling business units to perform their work program in line with the WBG’s mission to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet.
To achieve its purpose, GCSCR led by the Senior Manager, is structured into three divisions: (i) HQ Real Estate Development and Management (GCSHQ), which covers facilities based in Washington, DC, (ii) International Real Estate (GCSIR), responsible for facilities located overseas, and (iii) Corporate Real Estate, Center of Excellence (CoE) which serves as a central hub of expertise driving operational excellence, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring the successful execution of initiatives.
GCSCR is comprised of approximately 100 staff, leverages over 500 contractors, and manages an annual facilities capital investment plan of about $155 million globally. GCSCR works closely with the Regions on the Bank’s more than 190 locations.
The Interior Designer Project Manager position reports to the Senior Program Manager for Project Management, HQ Real Estate. This position will play a crucial role in translating creative concepts and ideas into functional, aesthetically pleasing spaces. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in interior design, a deep understanding of architectural tools, and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently. The position requires a unique combination of design expertise and project management; contract management, budget management; stakeholder management skills to oversee the entire design process from concept to completion.
Duties and Accountabilities
Duties and accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Project Leadership and Collaboration:
• Collaborate closely with Management to understand their vision and provide design recommendations that translate into innovative, functional spaces.
• Maintain relationships through effective communication and consistent project updates.
• Participate in project design meetings and construction document reviews and propose improvements as necessary.
• Maintain familiarity and awareness of local building codes, accessibility standards, and safety regulations to identify and escalate issues appropriately
• Collaborate with WBG’s Corporate Responsibility team to incorporate eco-friendly features into interior designs.
• Conduct on-going research of industry trends, new technology and future of work models to incorporate best practices into work program.
Design Development and Execution:
• Conduct space analysis, develop diagrams, render site plans, and contribute to all manner of graphic and visual production for senior leadership discussions and project decisions.
• Develop detailed design concepts, mood boards, and presentations, and guide the client through design decisions.
• Utilize applicable design principles to create detailed architectural drawings and specifications including elevations, ceiling plans, mechanical electrical, plumbing and furnish layouts, and schedules
• Create/modify hand renderings and 3D models using design and architectural software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or similar tools) from drawings, sketches or verbal instruction and ideas.
• Contribute to the improvement of design concepts through knowledge, research, and proficient application of technical and visualization skills.
• Prepare and review detailed construction documents, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and material schedules, where applicable
Procurement and Vendor Coordination and Budget Oversight:
• Develops and monitors the project budget and schedule and takes appropriate corrective action when needed to adhere to the pre-established budget and schedule.
• Oversee the procurement of materials, furniture, and decor, ensuring quality, budget adherence, and timely delivery.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders, ensuring all elements of the project align with the approved design vision.
Project Management and Oversight:
• Work closely with project managers and contracted architectural and Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing (MEP) firms to develop technical drawings, specifications, signage, and layouts for interior fit out projects.
• Ensure Project Managers have proper oversight of design and construction contractors to deliver highest quality of services for all projects.
• Oversee budget management as part of the project management lifecycle
• Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Report and provide updates as necessary to project managers and Senior Program Manager
• Work closely with project managers to ensure design intent is maintained throughout construction projects.
• Attend project site visits and collaborate with project managers during the construction phase to maintain design intent, quality control, and address any technical challenges.
• Leverage appropriate tools for designing and documenting across all project milestones.
• Conduct site visits and supervise installations, ensuring design integrity is maintained during execution and resolve any project-related issues or changes with a solution
Selection Criteria
• Master’s degree with minimum 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of Architecture, Planning, Interior/Urban Design, or a related field with at least 2 years in a project management role.
• Ability to conceptualize, design & implement projects related to the delivery of capital improvement projects (building interior fit outs).
• 5 years’ experience in space studies, design and construction document preparation.
• Knowledge of architectural principles, building methods and materials, and construction methods relevant and applicable to interior office designs and fit out projects.
• A strong portfolio showcasing previous interior design and project management work.
• Ability to quickly respond to urgent requests to create rendered views to support project discussions and decisions.
• Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards and workplace trends
• Attention to detail and the ability to ensure quality control throughout the project lifecycle
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to speak persuasively and present ideas clearly and concisely.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Suite, AutoCAD or any applicable design and construction document tool.
• Thorough understanding of the various construction contracts and framework agreements.
• Certification with organizations such as NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) is preferred.
