Quality Intern

Worthington Steel is hiring a Summer Quality Intern! Worthington Steel's Summer Internship Program is a 12-week program that starts at the end of May and runs through early August.

We are looking to hire a student who will work 40 hours per week onsite at our Columbus Steel facility in Columbus, Ohio during our Summer Internship Program. Worthington Steel is not responsible for providing supplemental housing for students.

During the program, interns will spend a significant portion of their time completing a business-focused project. These assignments could be related to data analysis and problem solving at the highest level, working with our facilities on top defects on our steel, compiling details and running root cause analysis and other projects related to quality.  Upon graduation, each intern will present their project to an audience that may include their managers, their peers, and executive leaders.

The interns will spend the remainder of their time receiving additional on-the-job experience, building their networks, and learning together in classes. Classes will feature topics such as business etiquette, resume writing, interviewing skills, and presenting with confidence.

In keeping with Our Philosophy, the program will also feature a community service component. Last year our interns spent a day at Goodwill Columbus.

Responsibilities:

• Improve productivity by performing process quality evaluations
• Study and improve plant safety and quality
• Cost analysis
• Process documentation
• Materials inspection requirements
• Visual Management
• Quality control
• Standards review
• Lean Tools and auditing

Desired Experience

• Desired majors in engineering or science: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar areas of study.
• Abilities to work in MS Office and other analytical and planning tools
• Possess strong analytic and statistic skills
• Ability to work independently
• Possess the ability to communicate effectively
• Desire to learn through hands on experience in production with employees
