What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Scribe position at Wound Sync?
The purpose of this position is to handle time-consuming clerical responsibilities for physicians during patient encounters, enabling physicians to spend more time with individual patients and increase the overall flow of patients in the department. The Scribe assists the provider by accompanying him/her during the medical history taking and exam, documenting details of the history and exam into the medical records at the direction of the provider, and coordinating the departmental resources regarding tests, orders, radiology and results. The Scribe tracks the results of orders for each patient, records results into the EMR, and notifies the provider of results as they arrive.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma and, preferably, one year of college in the area of Pre-Health Studies.
- Current Certification as a Medical Scribe or Medical Assistant preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum two years experience in the health care industry preferred.
- Hands-on experience with EMR systems required
- Ability to learn and appropriately apply basic medical terminologies, coding, and techniques taught and used on the job.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with patients, physicians, and all levels of staff.
- Ability to actively listen.
- Ability to observe and to draft a narrative account of events accurately, with proper spelling, and in grammatically-correct English.
- Skilled at operating computers and related software applications, with excellent keyboard proficiency.
- Strong attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Accompanies physician into the patient examination room and transcribes the encounter directly into the EMR system.
- Accurate, timely charting of patient encounters, including but not limited to patient history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, lab and test results, consultations with other providers, treatment course, diagnoses, discharge instructions and prescriptions.
- Proofreads and edits documentation for accuracy, conferring with physician as necessary.
- Performs other clerical activities necessary to assist with processing of physician orders for tests and medications.
- Complies with OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards.
- Responsible for maintaining credentials in an active status.
- Works with the management team to practice efficiently and effectively.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Performs related work as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, and bend; and may require lifting of paper or supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. The position requires manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard, calculator, telephone, and other office equipment as necessary. Position requires continuous viewing and typing on computers and other electronic devices. Vision and hearing must be within normal range.
MENTAL / EMOTIONAL DEMANDS:
Mental activities necessary for this position include concentration, organization, multi-tasking, problem solving, stress control, dependability, and both verbal and written communication skills. This position involves frequent contact with staff and patients. Work may be stressful and busy at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Position requires maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Hospital outpatient exam/procedure room setting. Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space. Exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to clinic setting may arise. Travel to facilities may be required from time to time.
