OBJECTIVES OF THE JOB:
The Teacher will plan, implement, evaluate and supervise a developmental classroom for children, including children with disabilities and their peers without disabilities when applicable. He/She will act as case manager/service coordinator for each child in the class by consulting with parents, therapists and other staff to promote and ensure appropriate classroom programming.
Assistant Teacher
The Teaching Assistant will assist and support the classroom teacher and therapy staff in program implementation and the day-to-day care and supervision of children.
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work well on a team, be flexible, and have a sense of humor. The ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, administrators, and families is essential.
Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a pleasant, soothing voice, and models this attitude and voice for parents and others working or volunteering in the program.
3. Work within a multi-disciplinary framework with therapists, teachers and support staff to ensure an effective instructional and therapeutic program.
4. Serve as case manager/service coordinator for each child in the classroom
5. Plan, implement, evaluate and supervise a developmentally appropriate and inclusive educational curriculum for young children.
6. Establish and maintain the environment required to motivate and enable each child to achieve learning objectives
7. Plan for and use instructional methods which motivate and enable each child to achieve learning objectives
8. Plan classroom program activities in accordance with the philosophies and policies of the Center and best practices
9. Maintain weekly lesson plans and progress notes
Maintain a structured daily schedule
Organizes each day's activities to provide children with a variety of experiences and opportunities that allow them to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving skills, and creativity, as well as a sense of self and a feeling of belonging to the group.
Completes timely, neat, accurate documentation of screenings, assessments, individualized plans, attendance, daily health checklist, feedings, daily activity logs for parents, inventories, and other documentation as may be deemed necessary for proving quality services.
13. Ensure that classroom therapy goals are implemented
Maintains a portfolio and at least 2 weekly observations for each child.
Respects individual preferences and eating styles; sits with the children and shares family-style meal; models manners and good nutrition.
Tends to children's personal hygiene needs, remaining especially attentive to them during routines such as diaper changing, cleaning, feeding, and changing soiled or wet clothes.
17. Coordinate general classroom housekeeping duties, including: preparing snacks, feeding children, and general clean up, etc.
18. Accepts constructive feedback and works towards improving skills
19. Attends and actively participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, in service training, program meetings and team meetings
20. Attends all required continuing education classes
Required to participate in the Intergenerational Program
Follow all DHS Regulations
Performs any other tasks deemed necessary by the center director
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $33,280.00 - $37,440.00 per year
