What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Facilities Maintenance Technician position at WP Rawl?
Walter P. Rawl & Sons, Inc., is a family-owned, multistate farm and food production company with headquarters in Pelion, South Carolina.
We are currently in search of a regular fulltime, year-around Facilities Maintenance Technician supporting our 800-acre greens farm and fresh green vegetable production facility in Bunnell, Florida.
Shifts can be from 8 to 12 hours daily depending on production.
Responsibilities:
The maintenance technician will:
- Perform basic programmed maintenance and diagnostics on assigned equipment, to include baggers, conveyors, HVAC/R systems, electrical systems, office and production lighting, rotating equipment, assembly line motors, PLCs, breakers and relays.
- Troubleshooting and maintenance of some farm equipment maintenance and housing facility also required.
- Must be familiar with all safe work handling procedures; safe working practices must occur at all times, with every job.
- Experience in LOTO, fall protection and arc flash protection procedures desired. We will train the incumbent in any skill or task orientation required. Work environments range from outdoor heat and cold, rain and sunshine, to the indoor fresh green vegetable production facility, which is often damp and sometimes wet, and is kept at 36 to 38-degrees Fahrenheit. Food production experience a plus.
- Own tools required; specialty tools provided.
- Safe working practices at all times is an absolute must.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems (3 Phase experience),
- Ability to troubleshoot processing equipment
- Mechanical ability to change motors bearings, rollers etc
- Understanding of PLC
- Plumbing
- Basic Welding operations of regular and stainless steel
- Troubleshoot and installation of motors and pumps
- Maintenance experience
- Ability to take direction
- Responsible and safety conscious
- Ability to work in a cold environment (36-40 degrees) for extensive periods of time
SPECIAL NOTE: Because this position supports a farming operation and therefore falls under the Agricultural Exemption of the Fair Labor Standards Act, it does not pay time and a half for hours worked over 40.
Requirements:
- Experience working with all types of mechanical and electrical systems required.
- HVAC and Ammonia refrigeration systems is a plus
- Welding and fabricating stainless steel preferred, but not required.
- Experience in produce packaging equipment such as conveyors, cutters, baggers, etc., preferred, but not required.
- Strong background working with and developing preventative maintenance schedules required.
- Experience with preventative maintenance software (i.e. work orders, cost of repairs, inventories, etc.) a plus.
- Strong English skills both written and spoken required.
- Spanish language skills a plus.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with insurance and registration is required.
- Incumbent must be proficient at forklift operations.
- The successful candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and be organized and detail oriented.
Working Conditions:
- No heating or air conditioning
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
- Industrial equipment, including moving conveyors and other electrically energizes machinery
- Concrete flooring, often wet
- Noise Level: High
- May be required to crouch
- Required to regularly sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear
- Must be able to walk frequently on flat terrain
