DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS
THE ROLE
The Director of Development Operations will play a critical role in supporting the Major Gifts and Membership teams at WQED. These functions include prospect research, analytics, development systems, and providing insights to inform stewardship and fundraising strategies. The Director of Development Operations reports to the Head of Marketing and Membership. This position supervises the data entry manager and donor relations specialist.
This role is essential for supporting data-driven fundraising strategies, maintaining donor relationships, and optimizing WQED's overall fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented individual who works well independently as well as collaboratively while bringing excellent technical, communication, and problem-solving skills to this role. This is a hybrid role that's expected to commute to and contribute from WQED's offices in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh three days per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure accurate and timely responses to member, donor and viewer inquires. Institute reporting and tracking practices to assess customer service response standards and trends. Be nimble and proactively shift messaging and processes to meet constituent needs.
- Manage and maintain the database, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of donor records, membership status, and renewal dates in each record.
- Conduct regular audits to maintain data integrity, including cleansing, de-duplication, and updating contact information
- Update monthly Major Gifts dashboards and extract data from ROI, the CRM donor database system for tracking revenue, goals, and metrics
- Analyze Major Donor data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for fundraising growth and improved donor engagement
- Generate regular and ad hoc reports for development and membership teams, including metrics on donor retention, acquisition, giving trends, and ongoing monthly and quarterly performance reports
- Provide data-driven insights to inform fundraising strategies, planning, and donor cultivation
- Collaborate with major gifts officers to analyze the performance of portfolios
- Assist with donor prospect research and identification using internal and external data sources
- Troubleshoot database issues and collaborate on system upgrades, integrations, and process improvements
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies related to database management and fundraising analytics
- Collaborate with the fundraising team to understand their data needs and provide appropriate tools and resources
- Create presentations for leadership and WQED Board, including PowerPoint, excel spreadsheets, and data visualizations
- Proactively identify areas needing operational improvement and make recommendations. Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Membership to create and implement new tools, structures and processes.
