The vice-principal is responsible for supporting the classroom teachers, therapists, teaching assistants and school personnel in providing leadership, vision, direction, planning and supervision in the daily operations of the school. The vice principal will be guided by curriculum standards, best evidence-based practices as well as by federal, state, local regulation and WSHV policy and procedure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Management
- Participate in development, supervision and evaluation of the education program.
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, supporting teachers, therapists, teaching assistants and school personnel as appropriate.
- Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
School/Organizational Climate
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Communicate effectively with students, families and WSHV staff.
- Educate, promote and ensure compliance with P.B.I.S through the school building.
- School/Organizational Improvement
- Participate in development of school-wide improvement plans.
- Assist in the development, maintenance and use of information systems to maintain and record progress on school-wide performance objectives and academic indicators.
Personnel Management
- Observe and evaluate employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
- Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Administration and Management
- Supervise the daily operations of the school.
- Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of schedules.
- Responsible for the coordination, implementation and management of school-based programs including but not limited to Frontline, Google education suite, and KITE.
- Responsible for the coordination, training and supervision of the NYSAA. (Alternative Assessment)
- Requisition supplies, instructional materials, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
- Coordinate transportation and other support services.
- Ensure compliance with policy and procedure is consistent with all federal, state and local laws.
Student Management
- Ensure student’s Individualized Educational Plans are being implemented with fidelity in all school settings.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Professional Development
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Assist, coordinate and support school-wide professional development for all WSHV employees.
School/Community Relations
- Articulate the WSHV and the School for Achievements’ to the community and solicit its support in realizing its mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Other duties as assigned by principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Team player with the ability to lead and develop strong relationships with employees, students and their families. Ability to multi-task and set priorities to use their time effectively and to design time-line.
- Experience working with your children with disabilities
- Bachelors in Special Education or related Field and Masters in Special Education required.
- NYS Special Education Professional Certification required
- NYS School- Building Leader Certification preferred
- Bilingual a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational documents, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, ability to write reports and effectively present information.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
