General Definition of Work

Assistant Probation Officers are responsible for assisting Probation Officers with case management duties for adult and juvenile offenders. They also provide additional assistance to Court Services' Agents, the Court, and wRight Choice, as requested. Assistant Probation Officers lead the juvenile diversion program and are the primary point of contact for Court Services' Truancy Program.

Essential Functions

Duties and Major Areas of Responsibility :

  • Lead juvenile alternative sanctions.
  • Assist in the collection and monitoring of random chemical testing.
  • Assist with supervision and monitoring of low-risk offenders.
  • Assist with adult and juvenile Electronic Home Monitoring (EHM).
  • Assist with juvenile and adult diversion program.
  • Adult pretrial bail evaluations.
  • Assist in administering programming in the department.
  • Assist in providing case management to truancy, juvenile and adult diversion.
  • Assist in instruction and supervision of wRight Choice.

Tasks :

  • Conduct Agent of the Day duties.
  • Conduct urine analysis.
  • Assist with adult group probation meetings.
  • Meet with clients (adults and juveniles) to arrange community service work.
  • Determine restitution.
  • Assist Agents with probation violations and reports to the Court.
  • Complete adult and juvenile diversions.
  • Coordinate with juveniles for juvenile alternative sanctions.
  • Complete pretrial bail evaluations for the Court and provide support for court coverage of in-custody hearings.
  • Meet with clients to arrange pre-trial / post-trial / house arrest electronic monitoring.
  • Update and close administrative and informal probation files on CSTS.
  • Assist with Teen Court hearings and training.
  • Monitor adult and juvenile diversion files on CSTS.
  • Assist with facilitation of all department programming such as Decision Points.
  • File Revenue Recapture on files with past due restitution and fees.
  • Run criminal history checks and driver's license checks on clients.
  • Assist pretrial staff with general daily tasks.
  • Assist other agents and clerical with general daily tasks, as needed.
  • Assist in providing instruction and supervision of students in the wRight Choice Program.
  • Assist in providing case management on truancy cases, to include preparing reports, communication with schools, families, and other county agencies, and making appropriate referrals.
  • Serve as a representation of Court Services' Truancy Program in a variety of capacities.
  • Minimum Qualifications & Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Requirements :

    Bachelor's degree in Corrections or related field or two-year degree and four years related experience. Prefer experience in working with juveniles and communities.

    Authority :

    Directly responsible to the Director of Court Services and Pre-Trial Supervisor, which are administrative positions directly responsible to the Tenth Judicial District Court.
