What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reconciliation Specialist position at Wright-Patt Credit Union?
The Reconciliation Specialist is responsible for various tasks within the Accounting Department which support the monthly reporting of the financial results.
1) Compiles all necessary data and reports for the assigned reconciliations. Reconciles routine, mildly complex general ledger accounts (GLs) as assigned on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. As either a primary or backup responsibility, assigned GLs include: Fed and correspondent bank accounts, physical cash, settlement of members’ funds (via wire, ACH, check, money order, or credit/debit cards), and various other operational activities. Resolves routine issues varying in complexity. Ensures proper policies, procedures, risk mitigation activities, and operating controls are followed. Reports gaps in policies, procedures, and operating controls to leadership to ensure member impact and risk is mitigated. Completes required regulatory reporting including weekly FR2900, remittance of backup withholdings to the IRS, and/or others. (50%)
2) Tracks and researches all outstanding reconciling items for assigned areas and works with other internal and/or external departments to resolve on a timely basis. (15%)
3) Provides accounting/transactional support via telephone and email to the Member Center Network. (15%)
4) Prepares and posts daily Accounting entries. (10%)
5) Develops and revises practices and procedures as they relate to the Reconciliation Specialist duties. Performs other functions within the Accounting department to support the overall function, which may include providing back-up support for the other Accounting personnel. Supports external audits and regulatory examinations. Performs financial analysis of operations as requested by the Accounting Manager. (5%)
6) As needed, serves as an Accounting representative on committees aimed at the improvement and development of new procedures and efficiencies for WPCU. Other duties/special projects as assigned. (5%)
Required Skills
1) Associate degree in Accounting or related field is required. Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
2) Minimum of two years of relevant work experience is required. Experience working in a reconciliation/accounting function, including month-end closing experience, is strongly preferred.
3) Knowledge and understanding of intermediate-level accounting principles.
4) Demonstrated ability to work with detail while meeting daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
5) Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively communicate with personnel at all levels throughout the organization.
6) Excellent computer skills and experience working with accounting software programs, including ERP systems (Fiserv Prologue or similar) and Reconciliation applications (Fiserv Frontier or similar).
7) Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, is required.
8) Experience in a financial institution, including working with teller transactions in a core system, is preferred.
9) Ability to accomplish assignments without close supervision.
10) Ability to use analytical and independent judgment for process improvements and problem resolution.
Salary : $39,000 - $54,000
