Senior Hydrogeologist – Denver
Wright Water Engineers, Inc. (WWE) is seeking an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to lead all aspects of the hydrogeological water resources practice, including project and staff management, with particular emphasis on planning, permitting, designing, logging of subsurface materials, construction, testing of groundwater wells, and well development. The position will also support Colorado water rights tasks, including substitute water supply plans, augmentation plans, historical consumptive use analysis, water demand analyses, and lagged depletion analyses. Education and experience should include geology, hydrogeology, geomorphology, and water quality. Some knowledge and experience in groundwater modeling, geotechnical engineering, and contaminant transport and clean-up will be advantageous.
Representative assignments include:
- Alluvial and bedrock aquifer well design and specification preparation, permitting, construction oversight, and aquifer testing
- Assessment of existing well performance, development, and rehabilitation
- Well-to-well interference assessments
- Review and interpretation of geophysical logs and aquifer test information
- Colorado water rights, including surface and groundwater, and the ability to support these assignments
- Water level and water quality sampling, data compilation, and assessment
- Interpretation of laboratory water quality data
- Technical writing about field activities and observations relative to geologic and hydrogeologic influences on properties and water resources
- Expert witness testimony
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related field, with emphasis or passion in earth sciences
- 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in consulting
- 5 years of water supply well design and construction experience
- Ability to market and generate work
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within scope and budget
- Experience with municipal, residential, and irrigation water supply wells
- Ability to research and understand subsurface conditions
- Ability to work in the field, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and nimbly respond to project scheduling and coordination
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, regulatory officials, contractors, and staff
- Excellent written communication skills, including technical memos and reports
- Ability to perform fieldwork in addition to regular office responsibilities
- Knowledge and experience with design and construction of mechanical systems including electrical, hydraulics, pumping, and controls systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related field, with emphasis or passion in earth sciences
- Familiarity with Colorado Water Law
- Knowledge of Western United States geology, preferably Colorado
- Experience with Denver Basin aquifers
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro
- Groundwater modeling experience
Compensation/Benefits:
- Full-time position with office and fieldwork opportunities
- Compensation range (salary bonuses) is $100,000-$160,000 (commensurate with experience, education, and skills)
