Responsibilities
Project Technical Activities
- On a weekly basis, review project tasks to be performed in conjunction with project schedules, project budget and project deliverables.
- On a project by project basis, performance, as assessed by Project Manager, meets expectations.
- On a continuing basis, interaction with other WRK Engineers personnel, as assessed by peers and measured by performance appraisal forms, is positive, collaborative and team building.
- On a continuing basis, self-check work for technical accuracy and reasonableness of conclusions.
- On a continuing basis, obtain sufficient technical direction from Project Manager or Lead Engineer on structural engineering calculations or details for which is any uncertainty to ensure the technical accuracy and logic/rationale of conclusions.
- Stay in contact with Project Manager or Lead Engineer at least weekly to discuss project progress, confirm technical direction, ask questions and review project expectations.
- Understand the structural scope of project and recognize work being requested in addition to the base contract requirements and coordinate with Lead Engineer prior to proceeding any additional work.
- Read, understand and operate with knowledge of the PM/QM Manual, Operations Manual, and CAD/REVIT Standards Manual.
- Develop positive relationships with all staff members to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Direct Utilization.
- Meet a base direct utilization rate goal of 90%. Utilization rate shall be calculated based on 40 hour work weeks.
Marketing and Business Development.
- On a project-by-project basis, client service, as measured by external post-project client surveys or internal post-project evaluation, has been positive.
- Manage client relationship at equivalent level. Regularly contact clients for project coordination.
Professional Development.
- Complete at least 15 hours of training covering technical structural engineering topics and issues such as building code provisions, construction material design expertise, advanced analysis techniques and state-of-the-practice technology for new and existing buildings. Such training may come through classes, seminars, conferences, and in-house training.
- On an annual basis, attended a minimum of 75% of all Lunch-n-Learn seminars.
Internal Activities.
- On an annual basis, attend a minimum of 75% of all staff meetings.
- On an annual basis, participate in at least two in-house activity or committee, outside of direct project involvement, that deals with firm issues, concerns, or improve some aspect of the firm.
Qualifications
Required:
- BS degree in Civil Engineering, MS or PhD in Structural Engineering, or combination of education and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Technical competence with demonstrated knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and the ability to take and apply direction from senior technical staff.
- EIT certification equivalent experience.
Desired/Preferred:
- Active participation in professional activities related to structural and earthquake engineering.
- Structural engineering technical experience, or research related to structural engineering.
- Experience in sales of structural engineering practice.
- Certification as Engineer-in-Training.
