General: The Assistant Controller is responsible for providing high-level support to the Corporate Controller in managing the company's accounting and financial activities. This role requires excellent professional written and verbal communication skills, the ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and growth-oriented environment. 

Location: Golden Valley, Minnesota 

Responsibilities: 

• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial reporting packages which are provided to internal management and external investors.
• Assist with the integration of acquisitions including the mapping and merging of data from legacy accounting systems into Deltek Vantagepoint.
• Review accounting processes and procedures across multiple business lines and assist in determining best practices and implementing consistent policies and procedures across the organization.
• Perform the monthly close process for one of WSB’s regional operations, including recording journal entries, preparing financial statements, and performing account reconciliations.
• Ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with company policies and U.S. GAAP.
• Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and delivery of all regular and ad hoc management reports.
• Coordinate the preparation of reports and schedules to support annual audit and tax filings. Follow-up with external auditors and tax preparers on questions.
• Assist with the evaluation of all significant accounting transactions.
• Assist with the preparation of WSB’s annual FAR audit.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
• Perform monthly financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement within the business.
• Support annual budget and forecasting activities.
• Assist with financial due diligence for prospective acquisitions.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5-10 years of accounting experience preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Experience with accounting software and principles.
• Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint a plus.
• Strong track record of meeting and exceeding critical deadlines.
