What are the responsibilities and job description for the Leve 2 Asphalt Quality Control Testing Technician position at WSB LLC?
The Asphalt Quality Control Testing Technician is responsible for ensuring that asphalt materials used in construction meet all quality standards set by industry regulations, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and company specifications. This role includes conducting field tests on asphalt mixes and raw materials, interpreting results, and maintaining accurate records to guarantee that products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
What you will do:
- Field Sampling & Testing: Collect asphalt and raw material samples from production sites and construction projects. Perform field testing, including temperature checks, density measurements, and compaction tests, to ensure compliance with FDOT standards.
- Data Recording & Reporting: Record test results, analyze data, and compile reports on material properties and test outcomes. Provide timely feedback to production and construction teams for quality control purposes.
- Compliance: Ensure all testing procedures and results comply with FDOT regulations, ASTM standards, and company quality control policies.
- Troubleshooting: Identify potential issues or deviations in asphalt quality and work with production staff to make adjustments to the mix or process as needed.
- Equipment Maintenance: Calibrate, clean, and maintain testing equipment regularly to ensure accurate and consistent test results.
- Safety & Environmental Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations during testing and sampling activities.
What you will bring:
- Education: High School diploma or GED; an Associate’s degree in construction materials, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience in asphalt quality control or materials testing in the construction industry is preferred. Experience with FDOT procedures is a plus.
- Knowledge of FDOT, ASTM, and AASHTO testing standards and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor conditions.
- Certifications:
- FDOT Asphalt Paving Level 1 and/or 2 certifications (required or preferred depending on company policies).
- Nuclear Safety Certification (for handling nuclear density gauges).
- ACI certification for field and laboratory testing is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Majority of time spent outdoors at construction sites and asphalt plants.
- Physical demands include lifting, standing for extended periods, and exposure to various weather conditions.
- Will require working weekends, nights, and/or extended hours depending on project schedules.
