WSP is currently initiating a search for a Capital Projects Business Leader for our US Mining business. The following locations will be considered: Boston, MA New York, NY, Chicago IL, Portland, OR, Houston, TX, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Boulder, CO. Be a key leader within WSP USA’s Earth & Environment team.
WSP USA has an exciting opportunity to join the Mining and Metals Region within our Earth & Environment business. The candidate will be responsible for driving and developing new major capital projects business in the Americas market to expand WSP's mining business, primarily focused in the USA. The position will also coordinate with other Business Lines to promote visibility and enhance cross-selling. The role will report directly to the US Mining Region Leader, leading the strategic vision of the mining capital projects market segment for WSP USA. This role requires significant internal collaboration with all WSP business lines and disciplines as well as with external partners.
Your Impact
- Drive business growth in the Earth & Environment Business Line with focus Mining.
- Promote, represent, and enhance company reputation internally and externally with clients staying well-informed of industry developments across the region to ensure the company is well-positioned
- Gather market intelligence and develop major capital project priorities and strategies for WSP’s mining business to meet the shifting market opportunities
- Actively generate new capital projects business and new clients, both external and internal through proactive collaboration in line with business objectives and sales targets
- Participate and speak at key conferences and in panel discussions
- Lead large project opportunity identification with major mining clients globally, with particular focus on the United States and across the Americas.
- Lead pursuits for major mining projects with a focus on EPCM and CM opportunities in close collaboration with WSP’s Applied Solutions businesses.
- Serve as project director on complex mining infrastructure projects and in other business lines as applicable.
- Help clients and internal WSP teams develop execution plans for large project implementation.
- Interface and collaborate with global mining partners within WSP on project opportunities and delivery guidelines and methods.
- Define new capital project market entry strategy and requirements and win propositions, developing a clear route map to capital project prioritization, successful pre-qualification and bid submissions and communicate clearly to pursuit and proposal teams
- Lead the establishment of strong and enduring high-level relationships with clients, partners, supply chain, and stakeholders to ensure strategy delivery and position for future capital project opportunities as measured by client satisfaction and feedback, the health of the prospect pipeline
- Accountable for client interaction – maintains contact with decision makers and key business interests in client organizations.
- Participate in active mentoring and the organic growth of the WSP capital projects team
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field
- 20 years of relevant post education experience in Mining and related industries and engineering field
- Extensive knowledge of mining operations and infrastructure
- Experience with major capital project planning and design for mining and related operations, including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience, both within WSP and client organizations.
- Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership
- Travel within and outside the USA may be required, locations and duration dependent on project-specific requirements and business development needs.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $149,600 - $341,100
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $149,600 - $321,210
