WSP is currently initiating a search for a Substation Electrical Engineer for our Atlanta, GA office. The following locations will also be considered : Birmingham AL; Charlotte NC; Orlando, FL. We have an immediate opportunity for a Substation Electrical Engineer to provide delivery of high voltage electrical substation designs for our projects. The Substation Engineer will work under the leadership of Supervising Engineer. The Candidate is required to work within a multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable high voltage substations. The engineer will coordinate his / her design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. The engineer will also assist the Estimating Team in preparation of estimates and project proposals.
Your Impact
- This position is accountable to provide the design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all WSP's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. Specific duties include :
- Work under mentorship and guidance of the Supervising Engineer.
- Prepare substation plan and profile view, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, cable trench, cable trays, conduit layout and detail installation drawings.
- Have knowledge of related disciplines / fields of engineering. Be comfortable operating within a multi-discipline design team.
- Prepare studies and design calculations such as load flow, short circuit, Arc Flash, grounding, TOV, EMF, transformer sizing, cable sizing etc. using software including WinIGS, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, CYMCAP. Study reports must be clear and well written.
- Provide percent complete as well as Estimated Time to Completion when requested by project managers or lead engineers.
- Provide input into improvement ideas during project execution and close-out.
- Prepare technical specifications for the electrical equipment, evaluate proposals from vendors, and review vendor drawings.
- Possess working knowledge of design software including AutoCAD and MicroStation. May be required to prepare or revise design drawings.
- Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications, and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.
- Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to substation design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
