What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Treatment Facility (WTF) Lead Operator position at WSP?
This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating search for an On-Call Water Treatment Facility (WTF) Lead Operator based out of our facility in Summitville, CO. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining the Summitville WTF water quality laboratory and performing environmental and project required sample analysis as directed. The Lead Operator will participate in environmental sampling and analysis and water flow data logging at several remote locations on the site; oversee the WTF process operations and liaising with the WTF Site Manager to mitigate unplanned facility shutdowns.
Your Impact
- Water Quality Laboratory housekeeping and maintenance
- Water Treatment Facility environmental and other sample preparation and analysis
- Sample preparation and shipment for off-site environmental lab analysis
- Process data compilation, entry and analysis
- Monitor process operations and equipment on several floors of the WTF
- Oversight of operations staff and treatment process decisions
- Management of laboratory and other site wastes
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- 2 years college work in engineering, science or other technical field
- 3 or more years wastewater treatment plant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1 year or more experience with operation of water treatment laboratory equipment including laboratory hood, solids drying ovens, pH probes and HACH type bench top analytical equipment. Experience with advanced laboratory analytical equipment (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) or Inductively Coupled Plasma analytical equipment (ICP-OES, ICP-MS), preferred.
- Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or current certification.
- Colorado Class "B" or "A" Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification, or ability to attain within 6 months, required.
- Safe operation of a company vehicle
- Ability to operate advanced and benchtop laboratory analytical instruments
- Ability to move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, sometimes in tight spaces.
- Ability to sample and prepare environmental and process water samples
- Good understanding of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude is a must
- Experience operating heavy mobile construction type equipment and/or a tandem axle dump truck is a plus
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary (shifts can be 12-hours per day)
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $60,700 - $88,900
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
