Position Summary Information
General Summary
This is a non-merit system, employment-at-will, long-term contract position. WSSC Water's multi-platform environment consists of physical and virtual servers, Windows and Linux servers, as well as appliances and SaaS solutions. The Sr. Systems Administrator - Cloud Platforms is responsible for the design, architecture, implementation and operations of a customer-facing 24x7x365 cloud and data center infrastructure, cloud & data center administration, servers, storage, middleware, non-application software, networks, and operations that support the applications and business processes. The Sr. Systems Administrator - Cloud Platforms is responsible for critical evaluation of the software and hardware components of the infrastructure, cloud providers, address security requirements, cloud & data center monitoring, deployment and provisioning tools. The position works with private and public cloud and build enterprise-class infrastructure to scale horizontally to address security, reliability, performance, availability and scalability of the infrastructure.
This position will lead and support efforts related to backup recovery, performance tuning, problem determination and resolution, and deployment. It will also help to develop and implement Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and disaster recovery plans.
The Sr. Systems Administrator -Cloud Platforms role is expected to provide senior-level administration and engineering support for all of WSSC Water's Microsoft server platform technologies which include Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, and Microsoft 365 (Azure AD, Azure Exchange, Teams, and OneDrive).
Essential Functions
- Architects, implements, secures, monitors and maintains the cloud and on-premises enterprise class systems, Microsoft, VMware, MS Exchange (on-premise and cloud), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop and Citrix Cloud Services administration, Nutanix, NSX, and other server infrastructures
- Serves as the SME for all aspects of platform technology implementations
- Responsible for ensuring 24x7x365 mission-critical applications availability, reliability and performance
- Responsible for administration of various VMware technologies such as vSphere, vCenter, vROPS and NSX
- Designs, engineers, supports, and optimizes hybrid infrastructures both on-premise and in the Cloud (i.e., Azure, Citrix Cloud, Nutanix, Cohesity, etc.)
- Develops system architecture and system design documentation
- Develops and documents support strategies and best practices, standard operating procedures, installation and decommissioning checklists, troubleshooting guidelines, and escalation procedures
- Establishes monitoring requirements for servers and applications as well as develops and deploys alerting strategies
- Performs hardware / software / OS installations and upgrades on multiple distributed systems
- Supports strategic planning for infrastructure growth and enhancement
- Develops, implements, maintains, and documents detailed disaster recovery systems and procedures
- Works collaboratively with third party vendors in the research, selection and implementation of enterprise class technologies; works closely with vendor(s) to obtain accurate quotations for services, hardware, and licenses
- Implements, administers, and enhances highly-available solutions, both within the data center and across data centers at multiple locations and in the cloud
