Position Title: Middle School Football Coach
Location: Woodstock, Vermont
Department: Athletics
Reports To: Athletic Director, Principal
Position Summary:
The Middle School Football Coach is responsible for organizing, developing, and coaching the middle school football team. This position will focus on teaching the fundamentals of football, promoting sportsmanship, ensuring student-athletes’ safety, and fostering a positive team culture. The coach will work closely with the athletic department, school staff, and parents to ensure a successful and enriching experience for the athletes.
Key Responsibilities:

Coaching and Instruction:

Teach fundamental football skills, including offensive and defensive strategies, conditioning, and teamwork.

Plan and lead practice sessions, ensuring all athletes receive appropriate training and skill development.

Develop game strategies, set goals for the team, and assess player performance.

Provide individualized feedback to athletes to help them improve their skills.

Foster a positive and supportive environment for athletes to grow both athletically and personally.

Team Management:

Organize and manage team schedules, including practices, games, and tournaments.

Coordinate with other coaches and the athletic department for scheduling and logistics.

Maintain accurate player attendance records and ensure compliance with all league and school rules.

Establish and enforce team rules, discipline procedures, and expectations for behavior.

Safety and Wellness:

Ensure that players are practicing safe techniques to prevent injury.

Monitor the physical condition of athletes and work with the athletic trainer or medical staff to address injuries.

Adhere to all state and school guidelines regarding concussions, heat illness, and other safety concerns.

Communication and Collaboration:

Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration.

Provide regular updates to parents regarding team activities, schedules, and performance.

Work collaboratively with other coaches and staff members to ensure a cohesive athletic program.

Attend team meetings, staff meetings, and other required events.

Sportsmanship and Character Building:

Encourage good sportsmanship and teamwork, both on and off the field.

Model and promote respect, responsibility, and integrity.

Assist in the development of leadership skills and positive self-esteem for all players.

Qualifications:

High school diploma required; college degree in a related field (physical education, sports management, etc.) preferred.

Previous experience coaching football at the middle school or high school level.

Strong understanding of football fundamentals and strategies.

Ability to teach and motivate middle school-aged students.

Certification in CPR/First Aid required (or willingness to obtain).

Knowledge of Vermont state regulations and league rules for middle school athletics.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Physical Requirements:

Must be able to participate in physical activities and demonstrate football skills.

Ability to lift and carry equipment as needed.

Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods during practices and games.
Compensation:
The salary for this position will be determined based on experience and the district’s pay scale for athletic coaching positions.
Salary : $1,600 - $2,000
