Full-Time Position
Woodstock Union Middle and High School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Special Educator to lead and expand our Community Classroom program. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to support students with diverse needs while shaping a program that fosters independence, community engagement and belonging, academic success, and vocational readiness.
About the Role
The Special Educator will:
- Provide direct instruction and support to middle and high school students with academic, vocational, and functional learning needs.
- Lead and collaborate with a team of talented and dedicated paraeducators to ensure high-quality instruction and individualized support.
- Develop and implement interventions that address students' cognitive, communication, social-emotional, behavioral, mobility, personal care, and self-regulation needs.
- Support students in both general education and specialized settings, integrating them into the least restrictive environment.
- Oversee case management, including IEP development, progress monitoring, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with related service providers (SLP, OT, PT, school counselors), general education teams, and external partners such as HireAbility, UVM CDC Cares, HCRS, Rutland Mental Health and the I-Team to provide comprehensive wrap-around student support to students and families.
- Evaluate and enhance programming to align with best practices in functional academics, life skills, and post-secondary transition planning.
- Work closely with students, school staff, and community partners to identify individual strengths, skills, and interests that may lead to future employment opportunities.
- Facilitate job exploration experiences, internships, and employment readiness skill development to prepare students for life beyond high school.
- Coordinate support staff working with students in the community to ensure meaningful, hands-on learning experiences in real-world settings while concurrently working towards students’ IEP goals.

- Collaborate with our school’s Center for Community Connections (C3) and their staff to explore and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and agencies to support student employment experiences.
