Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and results-driven Transportation and Fleet Manager to oversee our company’s transportation and fleet operations. This role is responsible for managing logistics, delivery, and fleet operations while ensuring cost efficiency, safety, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and experience optimizing transportation networks and fleet performance. Additionally, this position will be responsible for regulatory compliance, vendor relationships, budget management, and driver oversight.
Reports To: Team of the Executive Vice President (EVP Team)
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations
- Oversee daily fleet operations, including tracking vehicle availability, location, and status.
- Schedule and dispatch vehicles efficiently to meet business needs.
- Ensure timely maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime and operational disruptions.
- Manage the acquisition, leasing, and disposal of company vehicles to maintain an optimized fleet.
- Liaise with Logistics and Distribution Management at Würth companies within the Würth Line Craft North America business unit to affect necessary Fleet Operations SOPs and delegate necessary responsibilities.
Logistics & Transportation Management
- Develop and implement transportation plans to optimize delivery routes and schedules.
- Ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective movement of goods and services.
- Coordinate logistics and distribution activities to maximize efficiency.
- Utilize software and technology to track shipments, optimize routes, and manage scheduling.
- Address and resolve transportation issues, such as delivery delays, vehicle breakdowns, and accidents.
Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
- Develop and implement routine preventive maintenance schedules for all vehicles.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations and industry standards (OSHA, DOT, fleet-specific regulations).
- Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.
- Develop and oversee accident prevention and safety programs.
- Preventive maintenance schedules would be controlled by Ryder/Penske. They would contact the local branches of Würth companies within the Würth Line Craft North America business unit to schedule a time to bring the unit in for service.
Budget & Cost Management
- Manage transportation and fleet-related expenses, including fuel, repairs, maintenance, leasing, and insurance.
- Optimize vehicle utilization and logistics strategies to reduce operating costs and improve efficiency.
- Control costs while identifying opportunities for process improvements and savings.
- Oversee fleet expense reporting and ensure adherence to approved budgets.
Fleet Records & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of fleet vehicles, including registration, insurance, and maintenance history.
- Ensure compliance with all licensing, permits, and regulatory requirements (IRP, HUT, hazardous materials, etc.).
- Administer insurance policy coverage, negotiate agreements, and oversee claim resolution.
- Prepare regular reports on fleet performance, costs, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations.
- Maintenance history will be available from Ryder/Penske as needed.
Driver & Staff Management
- Supervise, train, and support drivers, dispatchers, and transportation staff.
- Monitor driver performance and implement training programs as necessary.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and efficiency among drivers and fleet personnel.
- Make staffing decisions, oversee pay considerations, conduct performance evaluations, and provide coaching.
Vendor & Supplier Management
- Develop and maintain relationships with third-party service providers, including freight carriers, mechanics, fuel suppliers, and leasing companies.
- Negotiate contracts and ensure vendors meet service expectations and cost-efficiency goals.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Track and evaluate key transportation performance metrics such as on-time delivery, fuel usage, and costs.
- Identify areas for operational improvements and implement best practices.
- Explore and implement strategies for improving fleet efficiency, including route optimization and eco-friendly vehicle adoption.
- Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in fleet and transportation management.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Transportation Professional, OSHA courses, etc.) are a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in transportation management, fleet management, logistics, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of supervisory experience managing staff.
Technical & Industry Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of transportation logistics, fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
- Extensive knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA standards, licensing, and reporting requirements.
- Experience with fleet lifecycle management, procurement, and vendor negotiations.
- Proficiency in fleet and transportation management software, electronic logging devices (ELDs) such as Samsara, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of insurance management, accident prevention, and safety programs.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
