Principal Scientist, Hit Finding Platforms

Overview

The Principal Scientist of Hit-Finding Platforms will lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge screening platforms and directly lead discovery projects for business partners. This role is critical to conducting high-quality research, fostering innovation across the teams, and driving business growth.

The WuXi Biology division provides a full spectrum of biology-related services and solutions, supporting stand-alone and integrated projects from early discovery to clinical development with 3,000 scientists across 9 global sites.

Responsibilities

• To establish and implement functional DEL screening capability, in close collaboration with tech teams in Shanghai.
• Lead hit finding research projects for clients.
• Participate in client engagement as a technical leader in close collaboration with the US-based BD team.
• To participate in platform development efforts across the Biology department to foster innovation in DEL, HTS, and other hit-finding technologies.
• Effectively communicate and interface with business partners, and develop and maintain excellent business relationships with internal and external clients.
• Anticipates scientific barriers and proactively develops strategies to ensure successful drug evaluation.
• Contributes to the overall operations and the achievement of departmental goals.
• Performs job-specific tasks in compliance with applicable regulations, international standards, WuXi AppTec policies, and standard operating procedures.
• May be required to assist in other departments.
• Travel requirement 25%
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience / Education:         

• PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, or related fields, with more than 2 years of relevant experience in DEL and cell-based screenings.
• Hands-on experience in functional DEL screening.
• 2 or more years of industry experience in a related subject.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Experience in large CRO companies preferred

• Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required.

• Demonstrated ability to lead other scientists and associates.
• Demonstrated ability for attention to detail and concern for impact.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to give and receive feedback, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Well-organized and adaptable to change.
• Computer skills: knowledge of internet research, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn instrument and data analysis software.
• Ability to travel for business as required

Physical Requirements:                    

• Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions.
• Must be able to work in Lab setting with exposure to Animals/biohazards / Chemicals
• Must not have animal allergies to applicable species in this facility
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
• Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels
• Ability to stand /sit/walk for long periods of time
• Ability to Lift 10 lbs. routinely
• Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach
• Ability to push/pull 10 lbs. routinely/ often / occasionally
