About the Role
Are you passionate about protecting public drinking water sources? We are seeking a Source Water Protection Specialist to join our team at the Office of Environmental Health Services. This critical role ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations while helping to safeguard our water supply. Key Responsibilities
- Utilize mathematical models and specialized software to analyze and protect water sources.
- Review and approve locally developed Source Water Protection Program plans.
- Monitor design, construction, and field activities to ensure the maximum protection of public water supply wells and surface intakes.
- Operate and integrate a Geographic Information System (GIS) with other State and Federal agencies.
- Research, develop, and implement methodologies using advanced mathematics, hydrogeology, and geological principles to establish wellhead protection areas.
- Prepare and interpret engineering, hydrogeological, and technical reports.
- Develop, adopt, and enforce laws, regulations, and standards related to groundwater protection, wellhead protection, and monitoring well certification.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Note: This role may require occasional overnight travel.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.
- OR equivalent professional experience (one year of experience per 30 semester hours of education).
Experience:
- Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental protection, natural resource management, or a related field.
- OR Graduate coursework may substitute for required experience (15 semester hours per one year of experience).
