West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hospital Medicine seeks applicants for a Pediatric Hospitalist faculty position (open rank). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV at WVU Medicine Children’s. In addition to providing excellent patient care, they will be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents and, in the future, fellows. Opportunities exist to participate in clinical and translational research.
The successful candidate will practice pediatric hospital medicine overseeing the care of medical and surgical patients treated in the Acute Care Unit and Newborn Nursery. He or she will also oversee advanced practice providers on both the primary inpatient service as well as the consult service for surgical and other patients.
Successful candidates must have an MD, MD / PhD or DO degree (the employer accepts foreign educational equivalent) and be eligible to obtain a state medical license. Candidates must have completed an accredited pediatric or pediatric / internal medicine residency program as well as a pediatric hospital medicine fellowship. Successful candidates must be board eligible or certified in pediatrics, and will be expected to become board certified in pediatric hospital medicine within five years.
Our new 150 bed Children’s Hospital in Morgantown, WV has a full suite of pediatric operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab / interventional radiology, pulmonary, imaging department, and GI-endoscopy with dedicated pediatric anesthesia staff. The hospital includes 34 pediatric beds, a level 4 NICU (only in the State) with 54 beds, 15 PICU beds, a Children’s Heart Center including 8 CICU beds, a dedicated Cancer Institute, an Emergency Department and Rapid Care. WVU Medicine Children’s is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1, as it is for adults currently. The Birthing Center houses a 30-bed obstetrical unit and maternal-fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state equipped to serve children, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence.
The West Virginia University Health System is West Virginia’s largest health system and the state’s largest employer. The Health System operates West Virginia’s first and only multi-organ transplant center, and opened a new, 150-bed Children’s Hospital in September 2022.
