The Assistant Director of Specialty Pharmacy Services is responsible for the efficient operations of the Specialty Pharmacy Services with a focus on Ambulatory Care, Clinical Oversight, Pharmacy Operations, and Business Management. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for the Improvement and work flow models and retail prescription access. Collaborates with clinical departments to improve and optimize the patient care experience. Develops and modifies existing benchmarks of performance to assess operational effectiveness of ambulatory pharmacy services with clinical outcomes; prescription throughput and staff performances. Directs and leads patient and staff satisfaction improvement initiatives. Directs oversight of the Pharmacy Operations Manager and the Clinical Services Manager. In collaboration with Director of Specialty Pharmacy Services, directs and leads department staff, goals, and strategic growth.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy OR Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy.
2. Must possess current license to practice pharmacy in West Virginia or be license eligible. Licensure must be completed within 60 days.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Completion of a health system pharmacy administration residency program AND Two (2) years of administrative experience OR ;
2. Completion of non-health system pharmacy administration residency program AND Three (3) years of administrative experience OR ;
3. Department Specific (Specialty) : Five (5) years pharmacy administrative experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
2. Pharmacy Practice Management Residency (PGY2).
3. Ambulatory Pharmacy Residency (PGY1).
EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience as Pharmacist-in-charge and Operational Oversight of 30 employees.
2. Experience as a Pharmacist in a Specialty Pharmacy.

1. Responsible for the efficient operations of WVU Medicine Specialty Pharmacy Services by providing leadership and direction on operational, clinical, and business functions.
2. Provides guidance to the Operations Manager, Pharmacist in Charge, and Clinical Manager with efficient pharmacy workflow processes and appropriate staffing for necessary patient care.
3. Designs and facilitates clinical department access, capacity assessments and creates work plans and timelines for implementation and process improvement.
4. Develops and fosters effective collaboration between clinical departments and medical divisions to ensure an integrated approach to providing optimal Pharmaceutical Care and fulfilling WVU Medicine goals and objectives.
5. Coordinates the development of new sites of service, including facility design, and staffing models.
6. Leads and supports committees pertaining to Specialty Pharmacy operations including Department Leadership.
7. Assists Clinical Manager and Operations Manager with Oversight of Quality Improvement Projects and Clinical Oversight Initiatives
8. Designs and leads departmental staff and education meetings.
9. Oversees and helps maintain nonresident licensure for both pharmacists and facility.
10. Reviews and helps develop and manage Specialty Pharmacy formulary.
11. Engages with industry representatives and maintains a positive relationship for medication and program access.
12. Works closely with Epic to learn and implement new processes, stay abreast of process enhancements.
13. Works closely with Pharmacist in Charge and other necessary staff to develop to ensure all state and federal guidelines are being followed and met.
14. Assists Director with marketing and strategic growth within the WVU Health System and wherever else when needed.
15. Provides didactic instruction to the School of Pharmacy if needed for Specialty Pharmacy.
16. Monitors support personnel in medication procurement in order to ensure correct and adequate inventory of medication.
17. Assists the Director and Business Team with Capital and Operating Budget decisions.
18. Assists Director with the Management of Accreditation Policies and Procedures.
19. Participates in quality improvement programs, productivity projects, resource development projects and other projects and programs as requested by Director/Manager.
20. Assist Managers and Supervisors in the supervision of technicians and pharmacists in drug processing and distribution duties:
a. Ensures that technician and pharmacist duties are performed accurately and efficiently with quality results.
b. Ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
c. Provides ongoing feedback to technicians and pharmacist regarding their performance.
21. Provides objective information on the performance of co-workers (both within and outside the pharmacy department) to facilitate performance management.
22. Assists Director with the Maintenance and Development of the Quality Management Program.
23. Proactively analyzes Pipeline trends and discusses with department leadership for strategic growth.
24. Ensures that necessary records are appropriately maintained according to legal requirements and hospital policies and procedures:
a. Controlled substances
b. Investigational drugs
c. Prescriptions
d. Billing records
25. Assists the Residency Program Director and Preceptors with both Residents and Students.
26. Maintains positive relationship and engages with payers to resolve any issues.
27. Responds to patient/client inquiries, complaints, suggestions, and reported real or potential medication errors and reports them to Director and completes/assists with completion of Medication incident report.
28. Assists with reviewing all data claims analysis and finance related reports, while offering guidance and solutions to issues.
29. Monitors personnel performance; provides input to Director regarding performance evaluations and makes recommendations related to staff assignments.
30. Utilizes key financial and productivity tools to manage and allocate resources of the department.
