POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are preparing for short-term projects: Joint Base Lewis-McChord Washington 26 April to 25 May; Camp Grayling Michigan 22 July to 21 August; Honolulu Hawaii 1 October to 29 October where your language skills will be used in support of a joint military exercise supporting U.S. and foreign service members. The working conditions are going to be a combination of classroom instruction and outdoor training sessions. There will be a few days when the work environment will be austere while supporting the field training exercises (see bullets below for more detail). You may be working side-by-side and living with the military during these field training exercises.
- This assignment has several physical requirements that are essential functions for the job (lift, stand, walk, weather conditions, uneven terrain, etc.).
- Classroom settings are indoor events.
- Field training is in an outdoor environment.
- While in the field you will have limited access to showers and laundry.
- Sleeping could be in an outdoor environment on the ground with sleeping bags. This will be with the military.
- Meals during field training could include prepackaged food - Meals Ready to Eat (MREs). There will be no specific diet accommodations available.
Most lodging will be in a hotel or on the military bases with the military.
You may have limited access to anything outside of the bases, such as stores-banking-entertainment-restaurants-etc. During the exercises we will have a project management team on site with you to ensure your needs are met and if for any emergencies that arise.
Here are the current requirements for the position.
- Must be a US citizen and eligible to work within the US.
- Must pass a basic background check and interview.
- Willing to accept the austere conditions of the event.
- Willing to take a DOT physical for the event, as applicable.
- Willing to validate your target language and English language skills via third party assessment.
- Willing to accept a pay range of $28 – $33 an hour, plus overtime for time over 40 hours a week.
This is a great way to gain some experience working as a simultaneous interpreter.
