TITLE: Associate Teacher – Child Care
SUMMARY: The Child Care Associate Teacher is assigned to and responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in a Child Care classroom at the Wyandotte Public Schools Early Childhood Center. Along with the Lead Teacher, the Associate Teacher will provide an appropriate and safe climate; establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behaviors, attitudes and social skills by teaching and reinforcing PBIS expectations; and assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons in accordance with State guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively with teaching team to:
- create a welcoming and effective learning environment.
- plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities across all learning domains
- support challenging behaviors
- maintain the classroom environment day to day (i.e. “housekeeping tasks)
- With support and guidance from the Lead Teacher, the Associate Teacher will:
- Lead small group activities daily
- Occasionally lead large group activities
- Collect anecdotal notes for assessment purposes
- Communicate with families as needed and promote parent participation and involvement in the program.
- Maintain, complete and adhere to deadlines for all necessary records.
- Lead the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
- Participate in professional development.
- Complete daily family communication sheets as required.
- Assist in feeding, diapering, and toileting of children.
- Flexibility and willingness to assist in other classrooms as needed.
- Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with teaching team, program staff, students, and families.
- Work collaboratively with Special Services staff and the teaching team to collect data and implement support plans for students as necessary.
- Ensure licensing ratios are maintained.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wyandotte Public Schools, the Early Childhood Center, and State of Michigan Child Care Licensing Guidelines.
- Other related assigned duties as needed by the Director of Early Childhood Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Two years of experience working in an Early Childhood setting preferred.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, CPR and First Aid training.
- Must successfully pass a Comprehensive Background Check.
- Knowledge of HighScope Curriculum, or willingness to be trained.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Associate Teacher reports directly to the Early Childhood Director and works cooperatively with other Early Childhood staff within the school building and District.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Work Year: One week prior to the start of the school year and two days after the end of the school year.
- Work Week: Monday – Friday day shift, 42.5 hours/week – actual shift TBD
- This is an at-will, contracted position through a third party contractor.
- Base salary: starting at $13.01/hour; actual rate dependent upon education and experience
- Holidays and personal days per annual Work Agreement.
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
