What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paramedic position at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center?
Paramedics are responsible for the Basic and Advanced Life Support care of their patients, documentation, scene safety, and the safe transportation of all concerned. They must inspect their vehicle and equipment at the beginning of each tour, secure such equipment and be responsible for it, operate within the parameters of the NYC REMAC / REMSCO / NYS DOH / NYS DMV VTL / OSHA / and departmental policies / protocols / laws / and regulations.
- Must maintain current EMT-Paramedic and REMAC certifications; Maintain a current valid DMV driver's license. HS or GED or higher education.
- Must be able to read & write in English, and interpret oral, written, and diagnostic form instructions, and read a map.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and balance 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance);
- Must be able to calculate weight and volume ratios.
- Report on time for assigned tours in complete uniform.
- Inspect vehicle, utilizing the WEMS-DOH 800 form, ensuring compliance and required stock of supplies & equipment, and noting any needs of vehicle or vehicle damage. Must also secure all equipment issued, and ensure it to be operational.
- Remain in constant communication with Dispatcher, reporting dispositions and locations according to protocol in a timely and accurate manner.
- Must respond to assigned calls in a timely, safe, and expeditious manner, adhering to NYS DMV Vehicle Traffic Laws and WEMS policy, without sacrificing safety for crew and others.
- Provide for scene safety, safety to crew, and report to Dispatcher an on scene report if necessary or request for additional resources as needed.
- Gain access to patient(s), search for all patient(s) at a scene, and triage as needed.
- Provide Basic and Advanced Life Support measures within their scope of practice, and within NYC REMAC Protocols.
- Decide the most appropriate facility for transportation and care, secure the patient(s) in the Ambulance, and provide everyone with safe transportation to the receiving facility.
- Complete all required documentation, and relay patient information to receiving facility designated and authorized agent.
- Restock, clean, and render the vehicle operational to be ready for the next patient, in a timely manner.
- Attend CME, Department meetings, Department in-services, orientations, and updates.
- Treat all patients, family members, staff, and other responding agencies with respect, privacy of information, and courtesy, with a professional demeanor.
- Assist WHMC staff when unit is off service, as needed, within the scope of their practice, and under the direction of the Medical Director or his/her designee.
- Comply with NYS DOH, NYS DMV VTL, OSHA, REMAC, REMSCO, Hospital and Departmental policies, rules, regulations, protocols, and laws.
- Maintain vehicle and crew quarters clean and sanitary.
- Make recommendations to Supervisor for improvements, changes, forms, etc. to make department work more efficiently.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by Supervisory personnel.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
- Desired (not required) criteria include: Preference to those that live close by, have a knowledge of the Brooklyn / Queens area, and are bilingual in Spanish. ***A minimum of 2 years field experience is necessary.***
- NYS DMV Driver's License REMAC Certification NYS DOH EMT-Paramedic.
- Must attend the WEMS CPR, HazMat Awareness, OSHA Regs, NYSP-DDC, and Departmental orientation as well as the Hospital orientation. Responsible for maintaining at least 72 hours of CME in a 3-year period as outlined in REMAC.
