What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Service Rep - ED/Admitting position at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center?
- Processes and completes patient registrations and performs related duties as established in departmental policies and procedures.
- Interviews patients/patients' representatives to obtain necessary demographic and health insurance information; provides information (in verbal and written form) regarding patient rights, advance directives and co-payment obligations; maintains confidentiality.
- Processes patient health insurance for verification/authorization guidelines.
- Obtains patient/patient representative signatures on acknowledgements and consents as established in departmental policies and procedures.
- Processes patient discharges and bed assignments as established in departmental policies and procedures.
- Processes and completes patient medical record chart and forwards to appropriate department.
- Assembles E.D. Treated and Released charts to conduct daily reconciliation, as established in departmental policies and procedures.
- Gathers Inpatient Face Sheets and follows up patient health insurance for verification, authorization and accuracy of data to facilitate billing. Forwards all revised health insurance data to Utilization Management Department and Nursing Units.
- Prints or accepts patient reservations, assigns and calls patients with pre-testing appointments (when applicable) and assembles jackets when applicable (sterilization forms, lab results, etc.).
- Gathers Short Stay (Ambulatory Surgery and Endoscopy) patient jackets to process and complete patient health insurance for verification and authorization guidelines prior to scheduled date of procedure.
- Obtains and documents diagnosis and procedural codes to facilitate authorizations.
- Obtains Medical Record Charts to obtain clinical data. Faxes and/or calls health insurance carriers to provide clinical data to facilitate authorizations.
- Contacts physicians, physician representatives, patients and/or patient representatives for correction of demographic or health insurance information to complete charts.
- Interviews patients in the Maternity Unit and obtains Paternity Acknowledgements to complete newborn Birth Certificates. Processes and delivers completed certificates to the NYC Department of Vital Records in accordance with agency guidelines.
- Accepts Expiration Reports, Medical Examiner Reports, Spontaneous Termination Certificates and Death Certificates for completion and processing following NYC Department of Vital Records guidelines.
- Courteously answers telephone calls and receives patients, visitors, hospital personnel, funeral directors, coroner's office dispatchers and responds to inquiries in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Director, Associate Director, Manager or Supervisor.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Knowledge of Third Party Reimbursement, ICD-9 & CPR coding basics
- Type 45 mph minimum
- Ability to prioritize duties based on established standards and criterion.

Days: Thurs - Mon Shift: 3:00pm – 11:00pm
