What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician - Per Diem position at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center?
- Experience in batch preparation of sterile admixtures
- Formats and prepares IV labels in keeping with departmental procedure.
- Answers department telephones, and channels calls to the appropriate individual.
- Assists, or refers to appropriate individual, employees from other departments who come to the Pharmacy with various requests.
- Obtains medications from stock in keeping with the Pharmacist's instructions.
- Counts medications and places them in appropriate container in keeping with departmental procedures.
- Adds medications to Pyxis stock under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist.
- Participates in the evaluation process utilized to inspect all medication storage areas of the hospital.
- Dispenses medications to hospital nursing personnel after being checked by a Pharmacist.
- Processes stock Medication requests for Patient care areas.
- Delivers medication to all designated areas, and picks up physician’s orders from these areas.
- Returns excessive unused medications to Pharmacy stock from patient care areas in keeping with departmental procedures.
- Notifies pharmacists of any expired unused medications that may be placed into non-usable stock.
- Performs certain batch manufacturing operations, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, in keeping with departmental procedures.
- Pharmacy Technician shall not be authorized to: receive verbal prescriptions from prescribers
- Adjust Pyxis stock levels based on usage reports when instructed to do so.
- Maintains emergency carts, boxes and kits under the supervision of the pharmacist
- Participates in data retrieval for drug usage reports and performance improvement.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
