The Social Work Supervisor is responsible for directing and coordinating the integration of Social Work functions involving patient care and the discharge process. Assumes the responsibility of and acts for the Director of Social Work during the Director’s absence. All duties are performed in a manner consistent with Wyckoff Heights Medical Center’s commitment to providing excellence in care through prevention, education and treatment while promoting service excellence.
- Coordinates the provision of social work services and discharge planning for patients, their families and others to enable them to deal with the impact of illness and to achieve maximum benefits from healthcare services.
- Participates in Medical Center’s committees and community organizations as assigned.
- Maintains professional affiliations and attends conferences, seminars and continuing education programs to keep current with trends and issues in social work and discharge planning.
- Provides formal or informal teaching to health professionals and community.
- Provides opportunities for professional growth and development to staff.
- Provides orientation, supervision and performance evaluations to staff.
- Assists in evaluating the systems and operations of the Department to improve the quality of services and staff effectiveness.
- Monitors and manages the day-to-day functions and staff assignments in the Department.
- Assists the director with the recruitment of staff.
- Prepares and analyzes productivity reports of the Department.
- Assists in application of personnel policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Uses the technology appropriately in the improvement of systems and work process.
- Develops decision making skills and problem-solving techniques for smooth operation of the Department.
- Applies coaching/mentoring skills which enhance staff development and performance.
- Exercise accountability, responsibility, critical thinking, conflict mediation, negotiation, decision making and professional maturity in the day-to-day practice.
- Maintains current knowledge regarding case management, HMOs as payors, community resources, regulatory requirements (JCAHO, DOH).
- Understands and agrees that work assignments and time schedules are changeable within scope of services, as per the need of the Department.
- Performs as a Director in the absence of Director.
- Performs other duties as required.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum formal education of Master's Degree and a minimum of 5 years job-related experience.
- MSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) New York State Department of Education.
- Five years as a social worker and some supervisory or leadership experience. Membership in professional organizations.
- Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
