Performs all Ultrasound Procedures as prescribed by the physician. Uses independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to obtain the necessary images for accurate diagnosis. Performs duties according to the age and condition of the patient. Possesses knowledge of human growth and development. Be able to understand the range of treatment needed by each patient age group.
- Explains procedures to patients and/or accompanying family member to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
- Position and transfer patients.
- Selects appropriate transducer depending upon depth of field, organ to be identified, etc.
- Conducts scanning procedures using Ultrasound equipment.
- Moves scanner over specific body area, adjust equipment to focus.
- Documents results of tests accurately on worksheet and scans in to PACS.
- Reschedules test, if necessary, due to difficulty from bowel gas, etc.
- Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department. Maintains established department policies, procedures.
- Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostics information and images.
- Uses independent judgement during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Analyses sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician as needed.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patient while they are in the sonographer's care.
- Participates in the maintenance of ACR accreditation.
- Assists Physicians in performing biopsies and proper handling of the specimen.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
- Experience Desired (not required) criteria include: ARDMS Certified or ARDMS eligible after 1 year of graduation.
- ARDMS Certification.
