What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Lab Tech position at WYEAST LABORATORIES?

The Production Lab Tech 1 works as a member of a team who is responsible for culture propagations, sample analysis, as well as general lab duties. The Production Lab Tech 1 is expected to effectively perform laboratory and production duties in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner. The employee must follow all company policies as well as Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure quality in the final product.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Strictly adhere to all company SOPs
- Maintain efficient and effective communication with coworkers, supervisors/leads, and managers
- Maintain clean and organized work environment
- Perform all stages of yeast propagations
- Perform morning FV checks
- Properly clean air lines
- Clean and calibrate basic lab equipment
- QC plating of yeast
- Media filtration QC
- Enter and track all data collection and tasks performed daily
- Properly operate autoclave and sterilize QC materials
- Properly clean all lab dishes
- Clean all workstations before and after use, throughout the day, and at the end of the day
- Perform nightly shutdown checklist and clean the room you were working in
- Perform weekly lab maintenance duties as needed/asked
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 2 year Associates Degree in Food Science, Brewing Science, Food Microbiology or related studies, 4 year Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Experience in Food Microbiology laboratory, culture production or related field
- Experience with basic laboratory analytical techniques
- Knowledge of food grade chemicals, cleaners, sanitizers and substance handling
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic
- Ability to multi-task while being quality and detail oriented
- Ability to understand and comprehend scientific language
- Minimum 2 years college in related field; food science, brewing science, microbiology
- Ability to fluently speak, read, write and comprehend English language
- Must dress in clean clothing, remove jewelry and nail polish
- Preforming general physical activities: requires considerable use of arms, legs and moving whole body, such as lifting up to 50 pounds, balancing, bending, twisting, walking, stooping, handling and positioning of materials/products and stairs.
- Knowledge and use of computers, Word and Excel
- Must have stable work history
