Primary Purpose:
Implement the special education evaluation process. Assess the educational, learning styles, and programs needs of student referred to special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for student with disabilities
Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s degree in education assessment
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Evaluation Skills and Procedures:
1. Conducts evaluations according to the normative guidelines of the test developer and writes reports according to federal and state statutes and federal and T.E.A. regulations.
2. Completes evaluation reports within timelines.
3. Integrates relevant information from school, family, and other professionals into the evaluation report.
4. Interprets information from all sources, develops diagnostic impressions, and makes recommendations.
5. Implements all transfer ARD procedures within timelines (review transfer ARD paperwork to determine need for evaluation; schedule 30-day ARD within timeline).
Management Skills
6. Coordinates with campus administration, clerical staff and/or lead teachers, and parents to schedule and conduct ARD meetings.
7. Convenes ARD committee meetings within required timelines.
8. Reviews ARD paperwork and completes follow-up paperwork (i.e., PEIMS/DEF data, referrals to related service providers, etc) in a timely manner.
9. Monitors accuracy of PEIMS/DEF data.
10. Maintains eligibility folders.
11. Maintains confidentiality.
Collaboration Skills
12. Assists classroom teachers/administrators with IEP development and implementation.
13. Displays professionalism when dealing with students, parents, and staff.
14. Collaborates with other professionals in matters relevant to student needs.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
