What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Metallurgist position at Wyman Gordon?
PURPOSE:
Position is responsible for providing Metallurgical Engineering support required to ensure that product conforms to customer requirements. Also provides Engineering support to Operations and equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Works under direction from Senior/Principal Product Metallurgist
· Interface with Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality departments as necessary.
· Provide support to all internal “customers” including Planning and Operations.
· Support new product introduction to ensure customer requirements and material properties are achieved.
· Manage non-conforming product and product repair.
· Assist root cause investigations through rigid problem-solving techniques and statistical analysis for material property deviations.
· Manage business systems supporting forge, heat-treat and testing within customer specs and fixed plan parameters.
· Prepare qualification test reports and other technical reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
· B.S. in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred.
· Forging and Heat-Treating experience preferred but not required.
· General familiarity with metals material properties.
